College of Agriculture and Natural
Resource Sciences (CoANRS) was established in 2007 at the same
time with the establishment of the University. It started with two undergraduate
programs namely, Animal Science and Plant Science having 6 academic staff (1 Ph.D., 4 MSc,
and 2 BSc holders) and 70 enrolled students. Currently, the college
has 7 undergraduate, 14 MSc and 3 PhD Programs. Its human capital reached 116
instructors (10 Associate Professors, 35 Assistant Professors, and 71 Lecturers),
19 academic technical assistants and 8 administrative staff.
The
college is one of colleges that are nominated as the center of excellence for
the University. It aspires to be the leading college in the university in line
with practice oriented education, applied
research and impactful community engagement. Apart from the research and
community engagement activities being carried out within the university, we are
engaged in collaborative national and international projects. To mention some,
“Advancing Sustainable Animal Production
and Biodiversity through Equitable African-Danish University Partnerships (ASAP-Bio)”
Project with one Danish and three African Universities and “Deploying
Diversity for Resilience and Livelihood”, a project being undertaken in collaboration with Alliance for Bioversity and CIAT,
funded by UK.
As a college in an applied university, CoANRS is intensely working towards establishing
a strong linkage and collaboration with different stakeholders including research
institutions, industries and professional associations. Our current partners
include: Debre Berhan Agricultural Research Center (DBARC), International
Livestock Research Institute (ILRI), Bio and Emerging Technologies Institute
(BETIn), MEDROC Agro Cluster, Ethiopian Horticulture Producers Exporters
Association (EHPEA), Ethiopian Economics Association (EEA) and Association for
Sustainable Development Alternatives (ASDA).
The
college warmly welcomes students, research institutions and visionary
industry leaders to solve the most pressing challenges in food
security and environmental sustainability. Together, we are cultivating the
future of science and stewardship.
