Welcome to the Department of Information Systems
Welcome
to the Department of Information Systems (IS) at Debre Berhan University. The program is designed to produce highly
skilled graduates who bridge the gap between computing technology and business
processes. We focus on equipping students with the practical knowledge and
problem-solving skills needed to help organizations leverage technology to
achieve their goals efficiently and effectively.
The
curriculum is built on an Outcome-Based Education (OBE) model,
ensuring that the graduates are not only knowledgeable but also capable of
applying their skills to real-world challenges from day to day.
About the Department
The Department of Information Systems was launched at DBU in
2011G.C (2003E.C) receiving 50 BSc
Information Systems students for the first
time. Currently, our department functions under the College of Computing,
offering teaching, and research and community service.
In its history it has
graduated its first ___students BSc Information Systems degree in 2014G.C (2006E.C).
Currently the department
provides training for 122 undergraduate students 41 2ndyear, 38 3rdyear, and 43 4th year (graduating
class). Information Systems in Ethiopia require a wide range of skills to
address the diverse needs of organizations and institutions across different
environments, ranging from government offices, educational institutions,
healthcare facilities, financial organizations, private enterprises, and
technology companies to large-scale information and communication technology
infrastructures.
The program has a 4 year training duration. Training is structured to maximize opportunities for learning and to provide a broad range of experience in different areas of Information Systems, including systems analysis and design, database management, software development, networking, cybersecurity, project management, and enterprise information systems.

The Information Systems program aspires to be one of the leading programs in
practice-oriented teaching and research in Debre Berhan University and the
nation by 2035.
