Campus Holds 5th National Research Conference
Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science
Campus successfully hosted its 5th National Research Conference under the theme
“Innovative Health Research for Sustainable Development” on May 2, 2026.
The conference brought together researchers, policymakers,
academics, and health professionals to share research findings, exchange ideas,
and strengthen collaborations aimed at addressing pressing health challenges.
During the opening session, Dr. Tewodros Kifleyohanes,
Chief Executive Director of Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, delivered the
welcoming address. He noted that the campus has identified key research
priority areas aligned with societal needs and emphasized its active role in
the development and implementation of impactful health policies and programs.
He further highlighted that the conference serves as an important platform for
knowledge sharing and partnership building.
The conference was officially opened by Dr. Sisay Mulate
(PhD), Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at Debre Berhan
University. In his speaking at the event, he stated that the campus has secured
several competitive research grants and successfully implemented high-impact
projects. These efforts, he explained, have strengthened institutional
capacity, fostered interdisciplinary collaboration, and enhanced the
university’s contribution to scientific advancement and societal development.
He also underscored the significant progress made in improving research
capacity and outputs in recent years.
Dr. Aklilu Alemu, Knowledge Management Director at the
Armauer Hansen Research Institute, delivered the keynote address. He emphasized
that strengthened collaboration between the university and the institute will
play a critical role in advancing joint academic and research initiatives,
particularly in the extraction and scientific application of indigenous
knowledge.
As stated by the main conference organizing body, the
Research Affairs Directorate, led by its Director, Lemma Getacher(PhD),
presenters at this annual national conference were selected from across
Ethiopia, including Debark University, Bahir Dar University, Mettu University,
Wachemo University, the University of Gondar, and Debre Berhan University.
In his closing remarks, Esubalew Tesfahun(PhD), Director of
the Research and Community Service Corporate Directorate at the campus, noted
that the conference featured solution-oriented and sustainable research
presentations, accompanied by in-depth discussions. He reaffirmed the campus’s
commitment to organizing future health research conferences with a focus on
practical, high-impact research led by experienced scholars.
The conference concluded with the awarding of certificates
to participants who actively contributed and presented their research findings.
