Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus conducts a Program Development Review

Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus conducted a Program Development Review (External Validation Workshop) on two PhD programs namely PhD in Public Health Nutrition and PhD in Nursing as well as one master’s program MPH in Health Informatics On March 10, 2026.

Opening the workshop, Abera Lambebo (PhD), Academic and Clinical Corporate Directorate Director, told that the purpose of the validation workshop is to get valuable comments from external reviewers, internal reviewers and the participants and he hoped to get constructive inputs which enhance the curriculum. He stated that the university has sufficient human and material resources to launch the programs and thanked in advance those who contributed in designing the programs and providing constructive ideas.

Dr. Tilahun Alelign (PhD) Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus PhD Programs Officer said that the workshop aimed to evaluate and validate these newly developed academic programs prior to their approval and implementation. He added that the process of evaluating and validating new academic programs serves four main purposes:-

1.      To assess whether the proposed program is necessary and relevant to the current educational and societal needs.

2.      To examine the alignment of the program with national priorities, the institutional mission, and labor market demands.

3.      To evaluate the quality, structure, and academic rigor of the curriculum, including course content, credit distribution, and learning outcomes.

4.      To ensure the availability of adequate institutional capacity, including qualified staff, infrastructure, learning resources, and administrative support required for effective program implementation.

He sincerely thanks all the external reviewers, internal reviewers, and the audience for their participation and for providing valuable suggestions to enrich their programs.

Dr. Lemma Getacher (PhD) presented the curriculum on Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Nutrition through webinar and also Dr. Yohannes, and Mr.Getahun Gebre presented the curriculum on PhD in Nursing, and MPH in Health Informatics in their respected orders

The external reviewers, internal reviewers, and the audience forwarded different questions, opinions and comment for the presenters which would help them to enrich the curriculum.

Finally, the presenters provided answers and explanations to the questions, opinions and comments raised by all parties. Overall, the program development validation process was deemed successful and achieved its intended purpose.
