Debre Berhan University Hosts Official Recognition and Appreciation Ceremony for National Program Accreditation Forum

Debre Berhan University (DBU) held an official recognition and appreciation ceremony for the National Program Accreditation Forum, honoring four health science departments that recently received accreditation from the Ethiopian Education and Training Authority (ETA).

 Opening the forum, Asmare Melese (PhD), President of DBU, expressed his profound pleasure and honor in the university community and its stakeholders for the successful accreditation of four undergraduate health science programs: Anesthesia, Midwifery, Comprehensive Nursing, and Medicine. He emphasized that this milestone marks not only an achievement but also a foundation for future progress.

 The President noted that the recognition serves as a stepping stone toward sustained academic excellence, expanded accreditation efforts, and continuous quality improvement across all academic and administrative units. He also extended his sincere appreciation to all stakeholders who contributed to the accreditation process.

 Mr Terefe Belay, Chief Executive officer at Ethiopian Education and Training Authority/ETA/, on his keynote speech said that Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus has been committed to accredited all of its programs and this showed  that the real initiation of the management and leadership. He disclosed that accreditation is one of the quality improvement instruments which helps to build trust and reputation of that institution in offering quality education, research and community services.

 The university should be selected by the students with the goal of ensuring that its graduates are well-prepared, possessing strong knowledge, practical skills, and a positive attitude necessary for overall competence. He added that two programs namely Anesthesia and Midwifery fully accredited and the other two programs namely Comprehensive Nursing and Medicine has been received provisionally accreditation and this showed that the campus’s exemplary and unique endeavors of the management, the accreditation committee , staffs and students.

 He also advised accreditation is not only one time task but also a continuous process which needs to be culture in the institution and therefore, great efforts needed in the future.

 Dr. Tewodros Kifleyohannes, Chief Executive Director of DBU’s Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, outlined the accreditation journey, including its challenges and key lessons. He explained that the process began in 2015 E.C. and involved strong collaboration among management, faculty, professional associations, and students. He acknowledged the technical guidance received from ETA and expressed gratitude to all contributors who played a role in the successful outcome.

 Finally, accreditation certificates have been officially awarded by ETA representatives. The Anesthesia and Midwifery programs received accreditation effective for five years, while Comprehensive Nursing and Medicine have been granted three-year provisional accreditation.

The university also presented recognition awards to the campus leadership, accreditation teams, departments, and stakeholders in appreciation of their dedication and contributions.

The review forum was attended by renowned scholars in the field, industry professionals, relevant stakeholders from the Debre Berhan City Administration, and other invited guests. The curriculum underwent an in-depth evaluation by two external and two internal evaluators.

Dr. Andinet Ashagrie, an Associate Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Addis Ababa University, served as the primary external evaluator. During his detailed analysis, he noted that the curriculum meets the rigorous standards required for postgraduate students. And it incorporates the latest advancements in Geomatics Engineering technology. Furthermore, the design ensures students are not limited to theory but are equipped to solve complex engineering challenges through research and practical application.

 Dr. Andinet further emphasized that as DBU is an Applied University, launching such postgraduate programs is crucial for addressing the shortage of high-level professionals and driving technology transfer and industrial development.

Tekletsadik Shiwerke, Dean of the College of Engineering, explained during his opening remarks that the college is focusing on high-priority fields supported by both internal and external expert reviews. He highlighted the university's broader strategy: Multidisciplinary Approach: Utilizing university resources to create diverse departments that satisfy the national labor market. Future Expansion: The Dean revealed a long-term vision to strengthen capacity and eventually launch Doctorate (PhD) programs. Market Alignment: The curriculum was scrutinized to ensure it meets international standards and the specific needs of the current job market.

According to the Dean, the constructive feedback from the workshop will be integrated into the final document, which will then be approved by the department and the University Senate.

Once these processes are finalized, Debre Berhan University plans to enroll its first batch of M.Sc. in Geomatics Engineering students in the 2019 E.C. (2026/27 G.C.) academic year.

Beyond addressing professional shortages, the program is expected to strengthen the university's ties with the local community, city administrations, and employers through problem-solving researcher.

During the welcome address, Dr. Betel Geremew, Director of International Relation& Partnership Directorate  at Debre Berhan University, announced that university researchers collaborated with peers from Aarhus University (Denmark), the University of Nairobi (Kenya), Jomo Kenyatta and Muni University (Uganda) to design the project proposal.

​The project has secured funding from the DANIDA Fellowship Centre, supported by the Danish government. Dr. Betel extended special thanks to Dr. Girum Gebreyesus for his significant contribution to the project's success.

​Introduce  the project to the University Senate and stakeholders.

​Select officials to lead work across five thematic areas.

Outline the 2026 action plan, specifically focusing on Animal Science within the College of Agriculture and financial procedures.

​Discuss implementation strategies with selected executing bodies.

​Dr. Girum Gebreyesus, who presented the next steps of the project, shared his professional journey. A native of Dire Dawa, he earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Haramaya University. He served as a lecturer and Dean of the Graduate Faculty at Jigjiga University until 2020, worked at the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) in Addis Ababa for two years, and later moved to Denmark on a scholarship. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the Center for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics at Aarhus University.

​The "ASAP-Bio" Initiative

​The project is titled "ASAP-Bio: Advancing Sustainable Animal Production Biodiversity through Equitable Danish-African University Partnerships." Dr. Girum briefed the Senate on the seven-year plan starting in 2026. Following the presentation, a discussion session was held where Dr. Asmare Melese and Dr. Girum Gebreyesus addressed questions and comments regarding the project's execution.

Dr. Shewafera Wondimagegnehu Teklu

Debre Berhan University has promoted Dr. Shewafera Wondimagegnehu Teklu from Assistant Professors to the rank of Associate Professor on March 19, 2026 at accelerated level.  

The promotion was based on his outstanding performance on effective teaching, publication, community engagement and participation in university affairs. 

In particular Shewafera’s involvement in publication at international level including Nature and his recognition as a top 2% scientist, the world's most impactful scientists based on Scopus data by Elsevier and a composite score (c-score) developed by Stanford University researchers, were listed among his achievements that are considered for his accelerated promotion. 

Debre Berhan University Senate congratulates Dr. Shewafera Wondimagegnehu Teklu and wishes his valuable contribution to the University and overall to the society grows much more than before.

Dr. Asmare Melese, President of Debre Berhan University, emphasized that as an applied university, Debre Berhan University is committed to enhancing a practice-oriented teaching and learning approach. He noted that strategic partners such as Ashewa Technology Solutions play a crucial role in the effective implementation of this vision. He further highlighted that, as part of its focus on the ICT sector, the University has expanded its academic programs at the Mehal Meda Campus. With a particular focus on enhancing internship and externship opportunities, he noted that investing in such capacity-building initiatives is fundamentally an investment in national development.

Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus conducts a Program Development Review

Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus conducted a Program Development Review (External Validation Workshop) on two PhD programs namely PhD in Public Health Nutrition and PhD in Nursing as well as one master’s program MPH in Health Informatics On March 10, 2026.

Opening the workshop, Abera Lambebo (PhD), Academic and Clinical Corporate Directorate Director, told that the purpose of the validation workshop is to get valuable comments from external reviewers, internal reviewers and the participants and he hoped to get constructive inputs which enhance the curriculum. He stated that the university has sufficient human and material resources to launch the programs and thanked in advance those who contributed in designing the programs and providing constructive ideas.

Dr. Tilahun Alelign (PhD) Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus PhD Programs Officer said that the workshop aimed to evaluate and validate these newly developed academic programs prior to their approval and implementation. He added that the process of evaluating and validating new academic programs serves four main purposes:-

1.      To assess whether the proposed program is necessary and relevant to the current educational and societal needs.

2.      To examine the alignment of the program with national priorities, the institutional mission, and labor market demands.

3.      To evaluate the quality, structure, and academic rigor of the curriculum, including course content, credit distribution, and learning outcomes.

4.      To ensure the availability of adequate institutional capacity, including qualified staff, infrastructure, learning resources, and administrative support required for effective program implementation.

He sincerely thanks all the external reviewers, internal reviewers, and the audience for their participation and for providing valuable suggestions to enrich their programs.

Dr. Lemma Getacher (PhD) presented the curriculum on Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Public Health Nutrition through webinar and also Dr. Yohannes, and Mr.Getahun Gebre presented the curriculum on PhD in Nursing, and MPH in Health Informatics in their respected orders

The external reviewers, internal reviewers, and the audience forwarded different questions, opinions and comment for the presenters which would help them to enrich the curriculum.

Finally, the presenters provided answers and explanations to the questions, opinions and comments raised by all parties. Overall, the program development validation process was deemed successful and achieved its intended purpose.

Debre Berhan University February 2026- Debre Berhan University recently hosted an academic exchange visit by a senior scholars from the University of Pisa, Italy, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen international collaboration and promote partnerships. 

The visit was initiated through an invitation of the visiting scholars, Prof. Giulio Petroni and Tianshi Li (PhD candidate, University of Pisa), by Solomon Melaku (PhD candidate, AAU), a staff member of Debre Berhan University, and a participant of the “NGTax” H2020-MSCA-RISE-2019 project coordinated by the University of Pisa. The visit was coordinated by the University’s Directorate of International Relations and Partnerships, which organized a one-day structured discussion platform bringing together staff members, directorates, and researchers from various units of the University.

 The session was opened with a welcoming remark by Bethel Geremew (PhD), Director for International Relations and Partnerships, highlighting the long-standing academic legacy of the University of Pisa – a home to renowned scientist Galileo Galilei, and underscoring the importance of building partnerships with globally recognized institutions. An overview of Debre Berhan University’s institutional organization, campuses, and strategic focus areas was also presented. 

During the program, the visiting scholar, Prof. Giulio Petroni from the University of Pisa, shared a brief professional biography and presented a selected International collaborative project experience on “NGTax”: Next Generation Taxonomy: Ciliophora and their bacterial symbionts as a proof of concept, H2020-MSCA-RISE-2019 project. The presentation served to illustrate a practical model for joint research initiatives and future collaborations involving several institutions from various geographical locations. 

The discussion further featured presentations from key research centers within Debre Berhan University. Fresew Belete (PhD), Coordinator, Shewa Robit Fruit and Vegetable Research and Extension Center, highlighted ongoing work in aquaculture, particularly in fingerlings production of Nile tilapia and African catfish to supply the growing demand in North Shoa Zone, Amhara region. Similarly, Amare Ayalew (PhD) from Ankober Indigenous Knowledge Development and Enrichment Botanical Garden Center presented the progress of the center in medicinal plant research, indigenous knowledge development, and the production of plant-based health products. 

In addition, Beimnet Abegaz (PhD), dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Science, gave a speech on the college’s academic programs and emphasized opportunities for collaboration through joint MSc and PhD programs. Her speech underscored the University's distinct focus as an applied University, prioritizing practical and industry-oriented research activities. 

The visit continued with an open discussion, during which participants explored broader areas of potential collaboration. Subsequently, Prof. Giulio Petroni, visiting scholar, reflected on the discussions by suggesting that multidisciplinary research projects could be developed through continued dialogue, and expressed his commitment to bring forward such partnerships at the University of Pisa. 

In his closing remarks, the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer of Debre Berhan University reaffirms the institution's strong commitment to internationalization and its intention to establish sustainable collaboration with the University of Pisa and other Universities in Italy. The visit marks an important step towards building meaningful academic partnerships and advancing Debre Berhan University’s vision of becoming research driven and internationally engaged institution.

Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus holds internal curriculum validation workshop

Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus held internal curriculum validation workshop on PhD in Public Health Nutrition, PhD in Medical Microbiology, PhD in Nursing, and MPH in Health Informatics on February 10, 2026.

Mr. Awgichaw Shewasinad, Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus Academic vice Corporate Director, told that the purpose of the validation workshop was to get valuable comments from the participants and we got constructive inputs which enhance the curriculum. He added that internal curriculum validation workshop is the process of the curriculum preparation and it helps to get ample information from different professionals. He also thanked the committee and the participants for their invaluable and full engagement in bringing these documents for internal validation and he confirmed that it will be send to external evaluators timely.

The presenters on their part disclosed that they will incorporate the suggestions and comments which are given by the participants and the validators. 

Debre Birhan University, Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus conducts Seminar on AI Assisted Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

Debre Birhan University, Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus School of Pharmacy conducted Seminar on AI Assisted Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis on February 4/2026 at the Campus Meeting Hall.

Birhanu Demeke, Associate professor at Wollo University and PhD Candidate at Addis Ababa University, Presented the Seminar on “AI Assisted Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis” to Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus Academic and Clinical Staff and Post Graduate Students. He said that systematic reviews and meta-analysis plays crucial role in the academic and research areas because they synthesizes all available data ,reduce bias ,and generate reliable evidence for policy formulation ,clinical practices and theory development. He added that AI will assist researcher to make their work efficiency valuable and increase the reliability of the data they used.

Ato Birhan Begashaw, Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus School of Pharmacy Academic and Clinical service Directorate Director, on his part said that the seminar will benefit the academic and clinical staffs to enhance their capacity as well as the participation in research and in conducting systematic review and meta-analysis. He also confirmed that the output of this seminar increases the staffs’ performance in the field. 

Finally the participants raised questions and suggestions, and then panel discussion was made and better consensus reached.   

Debre Berhan University, Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus delivers third Round Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Training

Debre Berhan University, Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, delivered the third round systematic review and meta-analysis training in collaboration with African Health Collaborative project at Addis Ababa University as of February 2-6/2026.

This training program engaged a multidisciplinary cohort of health professionals, comprising senior clinicians, public health practitioners, nurses, midwives, medical laboratory scientists, health in formaticians, and other health science researchers.

Leading the session, Dr. Asressie Molla, an experienced trainer, highlighted its practical focus: "This hands-on training equips trainees with the basic knowledge and skills necessary to generate second-generation evidence for evidence-based decision-making."

Dr. Asressie further underscored the exchange program's broader significance: "Such initiatives are vital for experiential learning between higher education institutions as learning entities." He reaffirmed his commitment to continued support, stating, "Mentorship will continue until the systematic review and Meta-Analysis result of the trainees are getting published in reputable journals." The training represents a key step in strengthening research capabilities and fostering institutional collaboration across Ethiopia's higher education institutions.

Lemma Getacher (PhD), Director of the Research Affairs Directorate at Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, stated that this systematic review and meta-analysis was conducted in three rounds. The first round was supported by the Amhara Public Health Institute, while the second and third rounds were supported by the Africa Health Collaboration Project.

Across all training rounds, more than 140 participants attended, and the initiative is highly significant for the University, as it enhances institutional reputation and strengthens research capacity and experience among staff.

Awlachew Tadesse, Debre Berhan University Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus project office coordinator at African Health Collaborative at Addis Ababa University, told that the purpose of the training is to capacitate health professionals in advanced research arena. The project lasts for 6 years and it will focus on health entrepreneurship development for students, health employments for health professionals and improving health ecosystem.

The African Health Collaborative at Addis Ababa University (AAU) is an initiative that brings together researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to strengthen health systems and improve public health outcomes across Africa.

DBU and INSA Partner to Launch National Cyber Talent Initiative

Debre Berhan University (DBU) and the Information Network Security Administration (INSA) have held a high-level consultative meeting to formalize a partnership aimed at bolstering Ethiopia's digital sovereignty.

The collaboration aligns with the National Digital Strategy, focusing on several critical pillars including Cyber Talent & Human Capital Development, Cyber Defense and Security, Joint Research and Development (R&D), Innovation, Incubation, and Project Development.

A major outcome of the discussion was the urgency to launch the Ethio-Cyber Talent Summer Camp.

"It is critical to invest in the next generation to produce well-equipped and skilful trainees," noted Dr. Asmare Melese, President of DBU. He committed the university to providing all necessary logistics and facilitation to ensure the program starts immediately.

Mr. Simework Eshetu, INSA’s Division Head of Talent Development, emphasized that this partnership is more than just technical training—it is about shaping the future leaders of the nation’s digital landscape. Beyond the summer camp, both parties agreed to expand their efforts into joint incubation projects and innovation activities.

The meeting was attended by DBU vice presidents, executive directors, and senior leadership, signalling a strong institutional commitment to the partnership.

The Office of International Relations and Partnership Directorate of Debre Berhan University (DBU) successfully organized and conducted a three-day training program held from February 2–4, 2026.

On the first day of the program, Professor Olga-Ioanna Kalantzi from the University of the Aegean held discussions with DBU’s top management, college deans, and directors of relevant offices on potential areas of academic and research collaboration. The training focused on strengthening DBUs’ internationalization, institutional partnerships, and exploring mutually beneficial opportunities.

In his opening remarks, Getnet Ashenafi (PhD), Academic Vice President of DBU, warmly welcomed Professor Olga-Ioanna Kalantzi and expressed appreciation for her willingness to engage in discussions on collaboration and to deliver seminar and training sessions for DBU’s management, staff, and students. He emphasized that training programs play a vital role in enhancing the capacity of both staff and students.

Following the opening remarks, Professor Olga-Ioanna Kalantzi delivered a seminar entitled “Erasmus+ and Beyond: Collaborative Opportunities.” Participants acknowledged the presentation for its informative content and noted that the proposed areas of collaboration were well aligned with DBU’s mission and strategic objectives. This was followed by an interactive discussion during which participants raised questions and exchanged ideas with the presenter.

On the subsequent days, February 3–4, 2026, Professor Olga-Ioanna Kalantzi conducted a training session titled “Tips for Writing a Paper for Publication: What Editors Want” for DBU staff members and postgraduate students. As an Associate Editor of the prestigious Environment International journal, which has a high impact factor, Professor Olga-Ioanna Kalantzi delivered the training by drawing not only on existing literature but also on her extensive professional and editorial experience. The program attracted participants from various colleges and diverse academic backgrounds, fostering a conducive environment for knowledge sharing and collaborative learning. Feedback from participants highlighted the relevance of the topics covered and the effectiveness of the training sessions.

In addition, Asmare Melese (PhD), President of Debre Berhan University, held discussions with Professor Olga-Ioanna Kalantzi on issues related to strengthening and sustaining the partnership between Debre Berhan University and the University of the Aegean. At the conclusion of the program, Dr. Asmare Melese expressed his appreciation to Professor Kalantzi and presented her with a letter of appreciation and commemorative gifts in recognition of her valuable contribution and to mark her stay at DBU in Debre Berhan, Ethiopia.

Debre Berhan University Signed MoU with Red Cloud ICT Solutions P.L.C

Debre Berhan University (DBU) has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Red Cloud ICT Solutions P.L.C to strengthen university–industry collaboration in technology development, research partnership, and talent cultivation.

The signing ceremony, held on December 5, 2025, marks a significant milestone in promoting innovation, enhancing practical teaching and learning, and fostering strong joint initiatives that address emerging industry challenges.

Mr. Bemnet highlighted the significance of the collaboration, noting that it offers a valuable opportunity to address industry-related challenges through the expertise and research capacity of DBU. He emphasized that many of Red Cloud’s current employees are DBU graduates—an indication of the university’s strong contribution to the ICT sector.

He further stressed the growing need for human resources in Business Information Systems, specifically professionals who can effectively integrate IT knowledge with business processes and decision-making. This partnership, he noted, will support joint efforts in AI integration, Learning Resource Platform (LRP) development, technology transfer, and resource sharing.

December 2, 2025 – Debre Berhan University (DBU) – A discussion regarding the ERASMUS+ 2026 project call was held between Debre Berhan University and representatives from the Deggendorf Institute of Technology in Germany. The meeting was attended by the president, Vice Presidents and the heads of various colleges and departments of Debre Berhan University.

At the ERASMUS+ 2026 project call, Professors Theiss Helge and Simon Killinger from the Deggendorf Institute of Technology in Germany participated in a discussion about developing a collaborative project proposal.

A key topic arising from the discussion is the preparation of a joint project for the robotics, manufacturing systems, and automation technology laboratory to operate at the university. It was noted that this project aims to promote technological development at the national level and that its potential benefits are significant.

According to Dr. Asmara Meles, President of Debre Berhan University, the university should look to the Applied University in Germany as a model for technological development. Dr. Asmara Meles emphasized that it is important to identify the problems we face in robotics technology as a country, and especially as an institution, and to apply robotic technology through Gap Analysis. He stated that enhancing the university's involvement in this field will enable it to showcase the outcomes of technological development at the national level. In particular, he mentioned fostering international collaboration with German institutions to implement robotic technology projects. He also noted that including student and staff exchange programs in these projects will help improve students' skills, broaden teachers' experience, and introduce new technologies to the university.

According to Dr. Hluf Reda, the coordinator of international cooperation and partnerships at Debre Berhan University, the project connects 4 institutions from Ethiopia (3 universities and 1 manufacturing industry) and 2 universities from Germany. The universities involved are Deggendorf Institute of Technology, Addis Ababa University of Science and Technology, Addis Ababa University, Aalborg University, Debre Berhan University, and the Manufacturing Industry Development Institute. They are in discussions to prepare a proposal for a joint project following the signing of a bilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in 2024. He added that experts from the German Institute of Technology are collaborating with the university on new developments in robotics and operating systems worldwide. He also emphasized that this project will have highly significant professional involvement, particularly in robotics, manufacturing systems, technology transfer, and job responsibilities.

He also mentioned that this will enhance students' skills, increase teachers' experience, and bring new technologies to the university, as the project will involve the mobility of both students and staff.

In addition, a half-day discussion was held for the teachers of the College of Engineering and Computing. He also announced that two studies were presented at the meeting, one explaining their general work skills, and the second being a student's PhD research. Regarding the project's timeline, Professor Thiess stated that the project could start on schedule once the proposal is approved and grant support is secured, with the first phase expected to begin around the end of next year. He also mentioned that the "collaboration" will continue for at least 3 to 5 years after it begins. Professor Thiess emphasized that this project requires strong support from research institutions, especially professors with specialized expertise in this technology, and partner industries that can apply the technology to natural products. Today, the University of Michigan held its first press conference with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. From the discussion, it is understood that the detailed work plans and financial structures of the project will be developed in the future.

Professor Theiss Helge from the German Deggendorf Institute of Technology spoke about the technological cooperation established with Ethiopian universities. He said that when he and his team visited Ethiopia at the beginning of the year, their relationships with various universities and representatives began with a new idea of collaboration. He also stated that he is an expert in precision manufacturing technology at the university, and that he has discussed the products developed by his institution, expressing a desire to engage directly with technical and resource experts in both countries.

November 17, 2025 (AWHSC). Debre Berhan University’s Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus and Dalarna University of Sweden have formally signed a ground-breaking Collaboration Agreement aimed at strengthening PhD-level education, research capacity, and international academic partnerships in the field of Midwifery and Women’s Health. The agreement marks a major milestone in Ethiopia’s efforts to build a highly skilled workforce capable of shaping maternal, neonatal, and reproductive health outcomes.

The agreement establishes a long-term partnership between the PhD Program in Midwifery and Women’s Health, under Midwifery Department at Debre Berhan University (DBU), and the Research Group for Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) at the School of Health and Welfare, Dalarna University (DU). The Collaboration Agreement is effective from 15 November 2025 and will remain active until December 2030.

The collaboration responds to a critical need in Ethiopia: limited doctoral-level training in midwifery and significant shortages in skilled academic and research professionals. This partnership aims to build a world-class PhD program that reduces brain drain, improves the quality of research, and strengthens midwifery-led health systems for maternal and new born care.

Debre Berhan University’s PhD Program in Midwifery and Women’s Health is designed to produce highly skilled leaders in education, research, policy, and clinical practice. Dalarna University contributes its extensive international network of more than 40 researchers, specializing in midwife-led care, maternal and new born health, trauma and mental health, digital innovations, life-course women's health, and SRH systems integration.

The Collaboration Agreement was officially signed by Dr. Asmare Melese, Debre Berhan University President, and Professor Kerstin Erlandson, Dalarna University, Research Group Leader, Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) School of Health and Welfare.

In their joint statement, the leaders highlighted the importance of global collaboration in advancing maternal and reproductive health, capacity building, and research that directly addresses real-world challenges in low-resource settings.

Key components of the agreement include:

• Research capacity building and advanced training for staff and students

• Joint research projects, publications, and grant applications

• Staff and student exchange programs

• Co-supervision of PhD students

• Joint development of curricula, guidelines, and research standards

• Shared seminars, conferences, and dissemination workshops

• Data-sharing and collaborative learning

These efforts will enhance evidence-informed decision-making and contribute to high-quality academic outputs aligned with national and global health priorities.

Expected Impact

The first cohort of PhD candidates will begin studies in 2025/2026, with 3–4 students enrolling annually. The first graduates are expected by 2029, marking an important contribution to Ethiopia’s pool of academic and research professionals.

Debre Berhan University 23 October 2025. Debre Berhan University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences and College of Social and Human Sciences jointly held a panel discussion titled Urban October: Promoting Sustainable Urban Development.

The Dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Dr. Bemnet Abegaz, who delivered the speech at the program, welcomed the Deputy Mayor of Debre Berhan Regio politant City, various university officials, guests, teachers and panelists from various sectors, and thanked them for coming to the panel discussion and awareness forum jointly organized by Debre Berhan University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Sciences and College of Social and Human Sciences, as well as UN Habitat. She also said that Debre Berhan University is working with various partners to carry out key missions and research for the local community, and that the program of the day is one of our demonstrations, so all stakeholders have a great role to play in accelerating sustainable urban development and growth.

In his opening speech, Debre Berhan University Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, Special Advisor Kassahun Bekele (Dr.), welcomed everyone and mentioned that Urban October is celebrated around the world and that the current high population migration caused by climate change is a problem that is seen in cities. He continued by saying that there are many experts at the university and that much work is expected. He also said that if there is population congestion, we should conduct many studies and move towards a solution.

UN Habitat Officer Belay File (Dr.), who delivered the keynote address, said that he was happy to be present at Urban October on behalf of the UN Urban Agency, thanking the university and city administration, as well as stakeholders. He also said that focusing on cities as UN Habitat, it is known that there are many industries in cities, which causes pollution& climate change. He said that the panel is prepared to answer the question of how to prevent pollution and maintain climate change in a good way for the next generation.

Five different papers were presented in the panel discussion by  Alemnew Berhanu(Dr.), Gebre Tafere (Dr.),Mr. Abebe Zeluel, Filip Stepanek and Wondimagegn Atilaw(Dr.) consecutively .  And then Discussions were held on the papers presented. On the same day, the Dean of the College of Social Sciences and Humanities, Gebre Tafere (PhD), and the Head of the Office of the President, Ato Bayu Getahun, presented certificates of appreciation and participation to Habitat Executive Director Belay File (PhD), and the Deputy Mayor of Debre Berhan Regio politant City, Ato Workalemahu Kostire, and the panellists.

The closing speech was delivered by the Head of the Office of the President, Ato Bayu Getahun, who said that he would like to thank Debre Berhan University for organizing this program in collaboration with them. He also said that it is expected of an academic institution to conduct research and discussions on issues that benefit the environment and the country. He concluded the program by saying that as the industry in the city expands, it is everyone's responsibility to increase the awareness of the community to change the environment accordingly.

የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት አስማረ መለሰ  (ዶ/ር) ምስጋና በማቅረብ እንደ ዩኒቨርሲቲ  ቅድሚያ ከምንሰጣቸው አጋሮቻችን አንዱ  ከፍተኛው ፍ/ቤት ነው በማለት  የተለያዩ ስራዎችን ከዩኒቨርሲቲው ጋር በጋራ ሲሰራ መቆየቱን ጠቁመዋል፡፡ በተጨማሪም  ተማሪዎችን  የእውቀትና  የክህሎት  ባለቤት ማድረግ   በጋራ አካባቢን ብሎም አገርን በመገንባት ትልቅ ሚና ይኖረዋል ብለዋል፡፡ 

የሰሜን ሸዋ ዞን የከፍተኛ ፍ/ቤት ዳኞች አስተዳደር ንኡስ ፅቤት ሃላፊ አቶ ይርጋ ደጀኔ እንደገለፁት የህግ ተማሪዎች በፍትህ ተቋማት ተግባር ተኮር እውቀት የሚያገኙባቸው መሆን እንዳለባቸው በመናገር ለማህበረሰቡ አገልግሎት መስጠት እንዲችሉ እቅዶችን በማቀድ በጋራ እንሰራለን በማለት ገልፀዋል፡፡

በእለቱም የዩኒቨርሲቲው የተለያዩ የስራ ሃላፊዎች እና የከፍተኛው ፍ/ቤት ዳኞች በተገኙበት የዩኒቨርሲቲው ፕሬዚዳንት  አስማረ መለሰ (ዶር) እና የከፍተኛ ፍ/ቤት ፕሬዚዳንት አቶዮሃንስ ወንድሙ የሁለትዮሽ የጋራ ሰነድ ፊርማ ተፈራርመው ፕሮግራሙ ተጠናቋል፡፡

ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨረሲቲ የ2018 የትምህርት ዘመን 12ኛ ክፍል ብሔራዊ ፈተና ተፈታኝ ተማሪዎችን በልዩድጋፍ  ለማብ ቃት በዛሬው እለት የማስጀመሪያ መርሀ ግብር አካሂዷል። በመርሀ ግብሩ የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዝዳንት አስማረ መለሠ (ዶ/ር))፣ የሰ/ሸ/ዞን ዋና አስተዳዳሪ አቶ መካሻ አለማየሁ፣ የሰ/ሸ/ዞን ትም/መምሪያ ኅላፊ አቶ ፀጋዬ እንግዳወርቅና የደ/ብርሃን ከተማ ትም/መምሪያ ኅላፊ ወ/ሮ መቅደስ ብዙነህ የተገኙ ሲሆን በዞኑ አስተዳደር፣ በዞኑ ትም/መምሪያ፣ በደ/ብርሃን ከተማ ትም/መምሪያና በደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ መካከል  የመግባቢያ ፊርማ ስነስርአት ተከናውኗል።

‎የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር አስማረ መለሠ ከባለፈው አመት ልምድ በመነሳት በ2018 ዓ/ም ጊዜ ሳናጠፋ የተሻለ የተማሪ ቁጥር ለመቀበል ዝግጅት ጨርሰን ተማሪዎችን እየጠበቅን ነው ብለዋል። ጥራት ያለው ትምህርት በመስጠት ተማሪ ማብቃት ላይ በትኩረት እንደሚሰራ በመግለጽም በዘንድሮው የማጠናከሪያ ትምህርት ፕሮግራም ተማሪዎችን ከማሳለፍ ባሻገር በላቀ ውጤት 100 ፐርሰንት የማሳለፍ ምጣኔን ይዘን ነው የምንሰራው ብለዋል።

‎የዩኒቨርሲቲው ፕሬዝዳንት እንዳሉት በባለፈው አመት ያጋጠሙ ችግሮች እንዳይደገሙ በጥራት ይሰራል።  በተጨማሪም ከአሁን ጀምሮ በቅርበት ትም/ቤቶችን በመደገፍ በተለይ በዘንድሮው አመት ውጤታማ ስራ ይሰራል ነው ያሉት ፕሬዝዳንቱ። 

‎ስራው በጥብቅ ዲሲፒሊን እንዲመራም ለዩኒቨርሲቲው የትምህርት ባለሙያዎች፣ ለዞኑ አስተዳደር፣ ለዞኑ ትም/መምሪያና ለደ/ብርሃን ከተማ ትም/መምሪያ አስገንዝበዋል። 

‎የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የማህበረሰብ ጉድኝት ዳይሬክተር መቅደስ ጌራወርቅ በባለፈው አመት እንደክልል ተነሳሽነቱን ወስደን ከዞኑ ትም/መምሪያና ከደ/ብርሃን ከተማ ትም/መምሪያ ጋር በሰራነው የተቀናጀ ስራ ካስፈተናቸው 306 ተማሪዎች ውስጥ 76.8 ከመቶ የዩኒቨርሲቲ መግቢያ ውጤት አምጥተዋል ብለዋል።

‎መቅደስ ጌራወርቅ የፕሮግራሙን አስፈላጊነት ሲያስረዱ አካባቢው ላይ በለው ወቅታዊ ችግር  ምክንያት ትም/ቤቶች በመዘጋታቸው ተማሪዎች አቅሙና ችሎታው እያላቸው  ከትምህርት ገበታ ውጪ  እንዳይሆኑ የሚያግዝ እንደሆነ ነው። ከአሁን በፊት ፕሮግራሙ የራሱ ተግዳሮቶች እንደነበሩበት በመግለጽም በያዝነው የትምህርት ዘመን አብዛኛው ችግር ይቀረፋል ብለዋል።

‎የሰሜን ሸዋ ዞን ትም/መምሪያ ኅላፊ አቶ ጸጋዬ እንግዳወርቅ የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የ12ኛ ክፍል ተማሪዎችን በማብቃት ረገድ በክልሉ ፈር ቀዳጅ መሆኑን ገልጸው በዞኑ የተሻለ ውጤት እንዲመዘገብ አስችሏል ብለዋል። አቶ ፀጋዬ ከባለፉት አመታት የተሻለ ውጤት የተመዘገበው በዩኒቨርሲቲው ጥረት እነደሆነም ተናግረዋል። በዘንድሮው አመት እንደ ዞን ትም/መምሪያው የተሻለ ዝግጅት አድርጓል ብለዋል። ካለፈው ስህተታችን ተምረንና የነበሩ ችግሮችን ቀርፈን በዘንድሮው የትም/ዘመን በከፍተኛ ውጤት መቶ በመቶ ለማሳለፍ ነው የምንሰራው ሲሉ የዞን ትም/መምሪያ ሀላፊው የገለጹት ።

‎የሰ/ሸዋ ዞን ዋና አስተዳዳሪ አቶ መካሻ አለማየሁ በደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ድጋፍና ክትትል በቅተው እንደ ሀገር ከፍተኛ ውጤት ያመጡ ተማሪዎች አሉ ብለዋል። ለዚህ ስራው የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲና አመራሮቹ ሊመሰገኑ ይገባል ብለዋል። የተሻሉ ተማሪዎች ላይ እና የተሻሉ መምህራን ላይ ስራውን መስራት ከተቻለ የተሻለ ውጤት ማምጣት እንደሚቻል ማሳያ እንደሆነ ተናግረዋል የዞኑ አስተዳዳሪ። ባለው የጸጥታ ችግር ምክንያት ሲማር ከርሞ ያልተፈተነ ተማሪ መኖሩን የገለጹት አቶ መካሻ በከፍተኛ ችግር ውስጥ ሆነን ነው እየሰራን ያለነው ብለዋል። የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ለመጠየቅ ዝግጁ ሆኖና ትልቅ ሀላፊነት ወስዶ ጠንክሮ በመስራቱ እንደዞን ውጤታማ መሆን ችለናል ብለዋል።

‎በአጠቃላይ በማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት የምትሰሩት ስራ የሚደነቅና የሚበረታታ በመሆኑ ዩኒቨርሲቲ በያዝነው አመት ተጠናክሮና በተሻለ አደረጃጀት ፈጥሮ የሚሰራቸውን ስራዎች በዚህ መልክ አቅዶ በዛሬው የፕሮግራሙ የማስጀመሪያ መርሀ ግብር ላይ እንድንፈራረም ሲያደርግ በሰራነው ስራ ልክ እንድንጠየቅ ጭምር ነው ሲሉ የገለጹት። እስካሁን ለሰራችሁትና ወደፊትም ለምትሰሩት ስራ ሁሉ የዞኑ አስተዳደር ከልብ ያመሰግናል ያሉት አቶ መካሻ አለማየሁ ስራው ሲሰራ ችግሮች ይኖራሉ በጋራ እየገመገምን እንሄዳለን ብለዋል። 

Debre Berhan University (DBU), in partnership with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE), has launched a new online payment system for all university services. The initiative aims to improve efficiency and support the country's move towards digital transformation.

During the launch event, DBU President Dr. Asmare Melese highlighted the importance of the new system, noting that it will streamline university operations. He also mentioned DBU's ongoing efforts to integrate all its automated systems, including those for academic, administrative, research, and hospital services.

Mr. Chalew Tesfaye, a DBU SIMS System Administrator, and Mr. Biniam Eshetu, a Software Developer at the university's ICT executive, provided a live demonstration of the system.

Mr. Robel Cheber, Director of CBE's Debre Birhan district, praised DBU for the initiative and confirmed that the system is a mature and reliable solution that will effectively address various challenges.

DBU's Academic Vice President, Dr. Getnet Ashenafi, facilitated the event and encouraged attendees to discuss the system for further clarification. He announced that the online payment system will be fully implemented starting in the first semester of the 2018 E.C. academic year.

The event concluded with a discussion on the system's features and payment processes. In his closing remarks, Dr. Asmare Melese thanked the DBU ICT team, the DBU Registrar's office, and the team from CBE for their collaboration.

August 11/2025. Senior leaders of Debre Berhan University held discussions with Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute on joint projects in health, agriculture and other areas.

During the discussion, the university's president, Asmar Melese (PhD), who delivered a welcoming speech, said that the institute has a lot of experienced researchers and that the process of working together in different projects as a university will continue to be strengthened in the future. He said that since the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute has done a lot in research and has a better laboratory, it would be good if Debre Berhan University researchers could be trained in project writing in the future and if our university students could also work together to gain good experience through internships. He added that in the future, as the university, it would not be dependent , but would work together in any situation, both financially and in ideas, and that they would be on their side whenever they face a problem.

 On the discussion , Amare Ayalew (Dr.), Director of the Ankober Botanical Garden, presented  a document on the previous works of the Ankober Botanical Garden, what the design of the botanical garden looks like, and its goals and objectives.

Ethiopian biodiversity Institute researcher Yiglet Mebratu presented his project proposal on the topic of collective planting cultivation of flowering medicinal plants of Ethiopia for production premium and medicinal honey, and explained the main objectives of the project, what its content requires, and what the professions of the researchers are involved. DEBRE BIRHAN, ETHIOPIA [ 29 July, 2025] – The Senate of Debre Berhan University (DBU) today announced the approval of new legislation formalizing its designation as an applied science university. This decision aligns with the Ministry of Education's directive for institutional differentiation, positioning DBU as a leading institution focused on practical, skills-based education. 

During the Senate session, Dr. Asmare Melese, Chairman of the Senate and President of DBU, underscored the importance of adapting university governance to reflect the unique mission of an applied science institution. He emphasized the necessity for the legislation to embody the fundamental principles of applied science education, including industry collaboration, experiential learning, and innovation-driven research. 

This legislation marks a pivotal moment for Debre Berhan University, stated Dr. Asmare. It provides a clear framework for DBU to excel in delivering relevant, hands-on education that meets the evolving needs of our community and the nation. 

The approved legislation underwent a rigorous review process, including multiple levels of evaluation and discussion prior to its final consideration by the Senate. The unanimous approval signifies a strong commitment from DBU leadership to embrace its new role and to create a dynamic and impactful learning environment for its students. 

The legislation takes effect immediately from the date of approval. Debre Berhan University will now begin implementing the new governance structure and aligning its academic programs, research initiatives, and partnerships to fully realize its potential as an applied science university.

Debre Berhan University held a discussion with a delegation from Tsinghua University, China, an international partner, on the status of the Bright Project implementation process, which was previously signed at the university level, and on issues that will help expand and strengthen future international relations.

On the occasion, Debre Berhan University President Asmare Melese (Dr.) warmly welcomed the delegation of China’s Tsinghua University, an international partner, to our university. He continued by stating that the purpose of the meeting was to review the progress of the project implementation process based on the bilateral memorandum of understanding signed at the university level a year ago; to strengthen the collaboration and partnership; to launch joint study programs PhD and specialties including joint employment; to facilitate physical and consumable resources and short term capacity building trainings and to further expand and strengthen international relations.

He also said that the discussion is useful for expanding and enhancing our relationship by studying and identifying thematic areas of international cooperation. He added that the memorandum of understanding signed earlier at the university level provides an opportunity to create partnerships in the fields of research and development, engineering, agriculture &natural resources, and other sectors, beyond the health sector, and will help expand and strengthen work done through student and faculty exchanges.

At the Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, Lecturer Tesfanesh Lemma said that the delegation had previously launched a pilot project to improve the health status and pregnancy outcomes of pregnant women using artificial intelligence (AI) ultrasound at three health centers. The project was launched to evaluate the performance of the project and further strengthen areas of cooperation in the public health sector.

Associate Professor Tang Kun, a delegation from Tsinghua University of China, And Dr. Esubalaw Tesfahun, Director , the Directorate of International Cooperation at Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, presented the background and research areas of their university to the participants respectively.

Debre Berhan University Celebrates Graduation of 1,359 Students

Debre Berhan University, June 15, 2017 – On June 15, 2017, Debre Berhan University proudly graduated 1,359 students who earned their first and second degrees. The university's President, Dr. Asmar Melese, delivered a heartfelt congratulatory message to the graduates, their families, and the entire university community. He urged the graduates to serve their nation with loyalty and dedication in their chosen careers. Dr. Melese highlighted the university's commitment to becoming a leading institution in applied education and research.

Of the graduates, 1,108 were undergraduates while 251 held graduate degrees. The ceremony was attended by university board members and esteemed guests.

Fatiha Ahmed: A Star Graduate with 37 A+ Grades

Debre Berhan University, June 22, 2025 (June 15, 2017 E.C) – Among the graduates was Fatiha Ahmed, who distinguished herself by earning two trophies for achieving an impressive 37 A+ grades. Fatiha was recognized with the university's overall and top female graduate awards, finishing with a remarkable 4-point score in her Economics studies.

Reflecting on her achievement, Fatiha credited her success to hard work and expressed her determination to continue striving for her goals. She emphasized her commitment to furthering her education in order to better contribute to her country. Fatiha also extended her gratitude to her teachers and family for their unwavering support throughout her journey.

Debre Berhan University (DBU) and the Armauer Hansen Research Institute (AHRI) have formalized a strategic alliance through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), signifying their commitment to collaborative research for national development. The MOU establishes a framework for cooperation across several key areas, including: Biomedical and Clinical Research, Product Development, Research Infrastructure, Capacity Building, and Graduate Education.

AHRI brings to this partnership 55 years of experience as a leading national institution in health research, innovation, development, and product research. DBU, a second-generation applied university with 16 years of experience, contributes its strengths in the mandated focus areas of health, agriculture, engineering and technology, and business and economics.

Professor Afework Kassu, Director General of AHRI, expressed his enthusiasm for partnering with DBU, recognizing its hub of accomplished researchers. He noted AHRI’s deep institutional knowledge and extensive experience in traditional medicine within the North Shewa zone of the Amhara region, emphasizing the potential for collaboration in this area. He further elaborated that the partnership will expand upon the existing indigenous medicinal plant enhancement project in Ankober, including clinical trials and new research endeavors.

Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of Debre Berhan University, emphasized the need for educational systems to be relevant to the national context. He underscored the importance of enhancing indigenous knowledge, ensuring its continuity, and acknowledging the contributions of those who hold it. He stated that Ethiopia can emulate the development strategies of other nations by leveraging existing strengths, incorporating new knowledge, and working collaboratively for national advancement.

Dr. Nigus further highlighted the shared goals of both institutions as the foundation for the partnership, particularly emphasizing the significance of the ongoing collaboration in enhancing medicinal plants and developing pharmaceuticals from indigenous resources, which he noted would be a substantial achievement for the nation.

Debre Berhan University (DBU) hosted its third University-Industry Advisory Board Consultancy Meeting in Addis Ababa, Harmony Hotel. The meeting focused on evaluating the progress and future direction of DBU's applied science education model which is practical-oriented.

Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of DBU, presented on the university's achievements in implementing practical-oriented education, emphasizing its importance as a cornerstone of DBU's identity as an applied science university, as designated by the Ministry of Education (MoE). Dr. Nigus advocated for a shift from traditional teaching methodologies toward practical, outcome-based education, facilitated by robust industry collaborations through student internships and instructor externships. He further highlighted the need for enhanced digital literacy and innovative pedagogical training for faculty.

Mr. Tekletsadik, Dean of the Engineering College, shared insights into the University-Industry linkage fostered through the successful externship program. This program has enabled numerous instructors to gain practical, hands-on experience in various industries, resulting in a positive shift towards practical teaching methodologies. Mr. Bejai Nerash Naiker of Bejai Ethio-Industrial Engineering Solutions provided entrepreneurial perspectives, underscoring the importance of practical-oriented education and advocating for the establishment of university-based incubation centers.

DBU's transition to an applied science university in 2023, guided by the MoE, has involved significant curriculum revisions, self-assessment for international accreditation, and faculty capacity building. Currently, 23 programs are actively pursuing national and international accreditation. Furthermore, DBU has established a Business and Technology Incubation Center to support talent retention and entrepreneurship development.

Discussions among participants, representing diverse industries and the university community, emphasized the crucial need for strong university-industry collaboration. The participants stressed the importance of producing graduates possessing strong employability and entrepreneurial skills, urging DBU to prioritize entrepreneurship alongside practical, hands-on education.

This consultative meeting aims to facilitate a comprehensive review of past performance and the identification of areas for improvement in order to equip graduates with the necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes, and entrepreneurial capabilities.

ካሳሁን በቀለ (ዶ/ር) የምርምርና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ም/ፕሬዚዳንት ተወካይ ዩኒቨርሲቲው ለኢንዱስትሪ አመራሮችና ሙያተኞች የአቅም ግንባታ ስልጠና እያዘጋጀ  አቅማቸውን ማሳደግ ይፈልጋል ብለዋል። ዛሬ ከአመራሩ ይጀመር እንጂ ቀጣይነት ባለው መልኩ ተጠናክሮ ይቀጥላልም ብለዋል። ዩኒቨርሲቲው ከኢንዱስትሪዎች ጋር ለመስራት አዳዲስ ስራዎችን ጀምሯል ያሉት ተወካዩ በቅድሚያ አምራች ኢንዱስትሪዎች ችግሮቻቸው ምንድነው በሚል የመለየት ስራ እየተሰራ እንደሚገኝም ተናግረዋል።  አክለውም በምርምርና በቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር በጋራ ለመስራት እንደዚህ አይነት መድረክ ጠቀሜታው የጎላ እንደሆነም ገልጸዋል። በመጨረሻም  ቀጣይ በምን እንደግፋችሁ የሚል ጥያቄ ካነሱ በኋላም ዩኒቨርሲቲው ያሉትን ቴክኖሎጂዎች የመፈተሽ፣ ተማሪዎችን የማብቃትና የማሰልጠን እንዲሁም በማስተማር እውቀት ማካፈል እንደሚችሉ ተናግረዋል። ትምህርታቸውን ማሻሻል እንደሚችሉና ለዚህ ደግሞ የተቀመጡ የአሰራር መመሪያዎች መኖራቸውን ገልጸው ተማሪዎቻችንን ብቻ ተቀበሉ ማለት አግባብነት የለውም ብለዋል።

በደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የኢንዱስትሪ ትስስርና ቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ዳይሬክተር ሰለሞን ደርቤ ስልጠናው በዋናነት ለተለያዩ ከፍተኛና መካከለኛ አመራሮች የተዘጋጀ የአቅም መገንቢያ ስልጠና መሆኑን ገልጸው ከ40 ለሚልቁ ኢንዱስትሪዎች ጥሪ ተላልፏል ብለዋል። የዛሬው ግንኙነታችን ሁለት ዓላማ አለው ያሉ ሲሆን የአመራርነት ክፍተትን መሙላትና በቀጣይ በሚኖራቸው  የምርምር፣ የማማከር ፣ የስልጠና ፍላጎትና የቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር ስራዎች ዙሪያ ከአመራሩ ጋር  በመነጋገር በጋራ ለማቀድ እንደሆነም ተናግረዋል። 

ከአሁን በፊት በዩኒቨርሲቲው ለአነስተኛና ጥቃቅን ኢንዱስትሪዎች የተላለፉ 5 የቴክኖሎጂ ውጤቶች መኖራቸውን የጠቀሱት ሰለሞን ደርቤ አዳዲስና ተጨማሪ የቴክኖሎጂና የምርምር ስራዎች በሂደት ላይ እንዳሉ ተናግረዋል። በዋናነት በቴክኖሎጂ ሽግግር፣ በማማከርና በስልጠና ስራዎችን እየሰሩ እንደሚገኙም ገልጸዋል።

ከኢታል አሉምኒየም ማንፋክቸሪንግ ፒ ኤል ሲ የመጡት ተፈራ ሰይፉ በዩኒቨርሲቲው  በተደረገላቸው ጥሪ መሠረት ስልጠናው ላይ እንደተገኙ ገልጸው ስልጠናዎች በየጊዜው  ቢዘጋጁ አዳዲስ እውቀቶችን ለመቅሰምና ራስን ከዘመኑ ጋር እኩል ለማስኬድ እድል ይፈጥራል ብለዋል። የዛሬው ስልጠና እስካሁን ባለኝ ልምድና የስልጠና እውቀት ብዙ አለማወቄን የተገነዘብኩበት ነው ሲሉም ገልጸዋል። አቶ ተፈራ ሰይፉ  ስልጠናዎች የሰራተኛውን መብትና ጥቅም በማስከበር፣ የድርጅቱን ስምና አገልግሎት ጠብቆ ዘላቂ በማድረግ፣ በአጠቃላይ ሰራተኛው፣ የድርጅቱ ባለቤቶች፣ ህብረተሰቡና ሀገር ለላቀ ጥቅም እንዲነሳሱ ፋይዳው የጎላ መሆኑን አክለው ተናግረዋል። ከዩኒቨርሲቲው ጋር ያላቸውን ትስስር ሲገልጹም  ድርጅታቸው ለህብረተሰቡ የተቋቋመ በመሆኑ ተማሪዎች ተመርቀው ሲወጡ ባለው ክፍት ቦታ ውስን በሆነ መልኩ የስራ እድል እየፈጠረላቸው እንደሚገኝ ገልጸዋል። ድርጅታቸው በፕሮግራም የተደገፈ የተማሪዎች የልምምድ ጊዜ እንዳለውና በልኩ ዩኒቨርሲቲው የሚልካቸውን ተማሪዎች ተቀብሎ የሚያስተናግድበት  አሰራር እንዳለው ተናግረዋል። አሁን በተያዘው አግባብና በሌሎችም ጉዳዮች ዙሪያ ወደፊት በይበልጥ ተቀራርበን ልንሰራ ይገባል በማለት አቶ ተፈራ ሰይፉ ሀሳባቸውን ሰጥተዋል ።

ጥቅምት29/2017ዓ.ም፡፡ በደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የምህንድስና ኮሌጅ በ2016ዓ.ም በስሩ ካሉት ዲፓርትመንቶች ጋር በመነጋገር ለሀያ ዘጠኝ መመምህራን በተለያዩ ኢንዱስትሪዎችና ሪልስቴቶች ከአራት ወር እስከ አንድ አመት ልምድ እንዲያገኙ በማድረግ ያገኙትን እውቀትና ልምድ ለዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራንና ማህበረሰብ እንዲያካፍሉ ተደረገ፡፡

በመድረኩ የእንኳን ደህና መጣችሁና የመክፈቻ ንግግር ያደረጉት የደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት ንጉስ ታደሰ (ዶ/ር)  እንዳሉት ዩኒቨርሲቲው በአዲሱ ልየታ የተግባር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተብሎ ስለተመደበ መምህራን እውቀታቸውን በተግባር የተደገፈ መሆን ስላለበት ይህን ተግባር ዩኒቨርሲቲው ትኩረት ስጥቶ የሚሰራበት በመሆኑ ሁሉም ሊገነዘበውና ሊያውቀው የሚገባ ስራ ነው ሲሉ ተናግረዋል፡፡መምህራን  በኢንዱስትሪዎችና ሪልስቴቶች የሚያደርጉት የስራ ላይ ልምምድ የዩኒቨርሲቲውንና የአጋር አካላትን ግንኙነት  ከማጠናከሩ ባሻገር ችግሮችን የመፍቻ መንገድ መሆኑን ፕሬዚደንቱ ገልጸዋልዋል፡፡  

በመድረኩ ፕሮግራሙን ያስተባበሩት የዩኒቨርሲቲው የምህንድስና ኮሌጂ ዲን  አቶ ተክለፃዲቅ ሽወርቄ እንደተናገሩት የደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ በአዲሱ ልየታ የተግባር ዩኒቨርሲቲ ተብሎ ከተለየ በኋላ ብዙ ስራዎች እየተሰሩ እንደሆነና ከዚህም ጋር በተያያዘ መምህራን የተግባር እውቀት ማገኘት ስላለባቸው ከተለያዩ ካምፓኒዎች ጋር እየሰሩ ይገኛሉ ብለዋል፡፡ አክለውም የዛሬው ፕሮግራም አላማ መምህራን በሄዱበት የአራት ወር፣ የስድስት ወርና የአንድ አመት በተግባር ላይ የስራ ልምምዳቸው ወቅት ያገኙትን እውቀት ለመምህራንና ለዩኒቨርሲቲው ማህበረሰብ ማካፈል፣ እንዲሁም በካምፓኒው ሲሰሩ የገጠማቸውን ችግር እንዴት እንደፈቱት ማሳየት ነው በማለት ሀሳባቸውን ገልፀዋል፡፡ በተጨማሪም የዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራን በሄዱበት ካምፓኒ ለገጠሟቸው ችግሮች የሚሰጧቸው መፍትሔዎች ካምፓኒውና ዩኒቨርሲቲው የጠነከረ ግንኙነት እንዲኖራቸው እንደሚያግዝና በቀጣይ ዩኒቨርሲቲው ይህንን ልምድ አጠናክሮ ቢቀጥልና በዚህ ስራ ላይ ያሉ መምህራንን ቢያግዝ እንዲሁም ከዩኒቨርሲቲው ጋር አብረው ለመስራት የተፈራረሙ ካምፓኒዎች በራቸውን ክፍት ቢያደርጉና እነሱም ወደኛ እኛ ወደነሱ የምንሔድበት እድል ቢመቻች መልካም ነው ሲሉ ተናግረዋል፡፡

በመድረኩም በስራ ላይ የተግባር ልምምዳቸውን ያደረጉ መምህራን የሔዱበትን ቦታና የሰሩትን ስራ አቅርበዋል፡፡ ከነዚህም መካከል ከኤሌክትሪካል ትምህርት ክፍል መምህር    አትንኩት ባዩ ፌቤላ የኤሌክትሪክ መኪኖች መገጣጠሚያ ካምፓኒ፣ ከመካኒካል ትምህርት ክፍል መምህር ስንታየሁ አሰፋ ቢጃይ ኢትዮጵያ፣ ከኮንስትራክሽን ማኔጅመንት ትምህርት  ከፍል ዮአዳን ሙሰማ አሚባራ ሪልስቴት፣ ከምግብ ኢንጅነሪንግ መምህር መላክ ሙጨ ኤልፎራ አግሮ ፕሮሰስ ኢንዱስትሪ ኮምቦልቻ ቄራና ምግብ ማቀነባበሪያ ፋብሪካ እና በተመሳሳይ ሌሎች መምህራን  በየድፓርትመንታቸው በመሰባሰብ ያገኙትን እውቀትና ልምድ እንዲሁም የገጠሟቸውን ችግሮች  አቅርበዋል፡፡ 

የኢትዮጵያ የአፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርስቲዎች ኮንሰርቲየም ተመሰረተ::

ጥቅምት 18 ቀን 2017 ዓ/ም፣ በትምህርት ሚኒስቴርና በድሬዳዋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ አዘጋጅነት በተልዕኮና የትኩረት መስክ ልየታ መሠረት በአፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርሲቲነት የተለዩ፣ የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርስቲን ጨምሮ፣ 15 የመንግስት ዩኒቨርስቲዎች ባካሄዱት ጉባኤ የአፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ኮንሰርቲየም ተመስርቷል። በጉባኤው  የኮንሰርቲየሙ መመስረቻ ሰነድ ውይይት ተደርጎበት የፀደቀ ሲሆን፣ አምስት አባላት ያሉት የሥራ አስፈጻሚዎች ምርጫም ተካሂዷል። በሥራ አስፈጻሚነት፣ የድሬዳዋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ፣ የደረብርሃን ዩኒቨርስቲ፣ የወለጋ ዩኒቨርሲቲ፣ የኮተቤ ትምህርት ዩኒቨርስቲ እና የአክሱም ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዝዳንቶች ተመርጠዋል። ኮንሰርቲየሙ  ዩኒቨርስቲዎች ሀብትን በጋራ ለመጠቀም፣ የጥናትና ምርምር፣ ሥርዓተ ትምህርት ቀረጻ እና የፕሮግራሞች ልማት ሥራዎችን በትብብር ለመስራት የሚያስችላቸው እንደሆነ ተገልጿል:: ከኮንሰርቲየም ምስረታው በተጨማሪ ዩኒቨርስቲዎቹ በአፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርስቲ ሽግግር በተሰሩ ሥራዎች ዙሪያ ልምዳቸውን አካፍለዋል። ሁሉም ዩኒቨርስቲዎች የአፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርስቲ ሽግግር የዝግጅት ማጠናቀቂያና የትግበራ ምዕራፍ ሥራዎችን በመተግበር ላይ እንደሚገኙ ገልፀዋል። በጉባኤው ማጠናቀቂያ ላይ የኮንሰርቲየሙ ዋና ፀሐፊ ሆነው የተመረጡት የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርስቲ ፕሬዝዳንት ዶ/ር ንጉስ ታደሰ የሥራ መመሪያ ሰጥተዋል።  

የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአይሲቲ ስራ አስፈጻሚ የሲስተም አድምንስትሬሽን ቡድን መሪ ዳዊት አባተ ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ በ2017 ዓ/ም የትምህርት ዘመን የትምህርት አሰጣጥ ስርአቱን ዲጂታል ለማድረግ እየሰራ እንደሆነ ተናግረዋል፡፡ ሙሉ በሙሉ ወደ ትግበራ ለመግባት የሚያችሉ የአቅም መገንቢያ ስራዎች እየተሰሩ መሆኑን የተናገሩት አቶ ዳዊት በዛሬው እለት ከ118 በላይ የተፈጥሮና ቀመር ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ መምህራን ቴክኖሎጂውንና አጠቃቀሙን በተመለከተ ስልጠና እየወሰዱ ይገኛሉ ብለዋል፡፡ አክለውም የተዘጋጀው ፕላት ፎርም የወረቀት ስርአትን በተወሰነ ደረጃ የሚያስቀርና የፈተና ስርአቱን ሙሉ በሙሉ ዲጂታል የሚያደርግ በመሆኑ መምህራንና ተማሪዎችን አንድ ለአንድ በማገናኘት ውጤታማ የትምህርት ሁኔታን ለመፍጠር ያስችላል ብለዋል፡፡ በመጨረሻም ስልጠናው ቀጣይነት ኖሮት በሁሉም ኮሌጆች ተግባራዊ እንደሚሆን አቶ ዳዊት አባተ ተናግረዋል፡፡

ስልጠናውን ያስተባበሩት የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የተፈጥሮና ቀመር ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ዲን  መስፍን ወልደአረጋይ (ዶ/ር) የአሁኑ ስልጠና የመማር ማስተማር ሂደቱ ቴክኖሎጂን የተከተለ እንዲሆን በማሰብ የተዘጋጀ እንደሆነ ተናግረዋል፡፡ አክለውም መማር ማስተማር ስነ ዘዴውን በዲጂታል አማራጭ መስጠት ያስፈለገው ቀለል ባለና በተቀላጠፈ መንገድ ኮርሱን ለመስጠትና መምህሩን ከተማሪው ጋር በቀጥታ ለማገናኘት ስለሚረዳ ነው ብለዋል፡፡ ይህ ፕላት ፎርም በአገር ውስጥም ሆነ በውጭ ተግባራዊ እየተደረገ በመሆኑ ካሉት የዲጂታል አማራጮች ለዩኒቨርሲቲያችን ተማራጭ የሆነውን መርጠን በመማር ማስተማር ሂደትና በፈተና ወቅት ተግባር ላይ እንዲውል ስናስብ ሲስተሙ ጊዜ ቆጣቢና ብዙ ቁጥር ያላቸውን ተማሪዎች ማሳተፍ በመቻሉ እንደሆነም ተናግረዋል፡፡

አቶ ደጀኔ ሸዋቀና የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የተፈጥሮና ቀመር ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ የሒሳብ ትምህርት ክፍል መምህር የዛሬውን የኦንላይን ሲስተም የክፍል ውስጥ የማስተማር ስነ ዘዴ ስልጠና ስንሰጥ አሁን ያለንበት የአለም ነባራዊ ሁኔታ ቴክኖሎጂውን የግድ ለመጠቀም ስለሚያስገድደን ነው ብለዋል፡፡ መምህራንም የራሳቸውን ዝግጅት የሚያደርጉበት፣ ከአዳዲስ ጉዳዮች ጋር የሚተዋወቁበት፣ ሰፊ እውቀት የሚገበዩበትና ቴክኖሎጂን የመጠቀም ልምድ የሚያዳብሩበት በመሆኑ ከኢንተርኔት መቆራረጥ ጋር ተያይዞ ከሚታዩ ችግሮች በስተቀር ጠቀሜታው የጎላ እንደሆነ ተናግረዋል፡፡

Debre Birhan, Amhara, Ethiopia - [18/10/2024] - Debre Berhan University (DBU) has taken a significant step towards its digitalization aspirations by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE). This agreement will pave the way for a fully digitalized payment system within the university, enabling all financial transactions to be processed through CBE's mobile banking platform, CBEBirr. 

The implementation of this cashless payment system aligns with DBU's commitment to enhancing service efficiency, reducing costs, and maximizing security. By eliminating the reliance on physical cash, the university anticipates streamlining payment processes, minimizing transaction time, and mitigating security risks associated with cash handling. 

The signing ceremony, which took place at Debre Berhan University, was attended by Dr. Getnet Ashenafi, Academic Vice President of DBU, along with Directors of Finance and ICT Directorates, and officials from CBE at Debre Berhan District. Both parties expressed their commitment to facilitating a smooth implementation process, drawing upon the technical expertise of their respective teams to ensure the system seamlessly integrates with the university's existing infrastructure.

ዩኒቨርሲቲው የሚገኝበት የሰሜን ሸዋ አካባቢ የቱባ ባህል ባለቤት፣ የኢትዮጵያ የረዥም ጊዜ ታሪክና ፖለቲካ ማዕከል እንዲሁም የአማርኛ ቋንቋና ስነፅሁፍ መፈጠሪያ እንደመሆኑ መጠን እነዚህን የማህበረሰብ ህልውና መሰረቶች የዩኒቨርሲቲው ዋነኛ ተግባራት መሆን እንዳለባቸው ከማህበረሰቡ በተደጋጋሚ ጥያቄዎች ሲነሱ አስተያየቶችም ሲሰጡ ቆይተዋል፡፡ በመሆኑም፡-

2. የሚቋቋመው ማዕከል ተልዕኮ የአካባቢውን ባህል፣ ታሪክና እና የአማርኛ ቋንቋ ስነፅሁፍ ማስተማርና  ማጥናት ላይ ያተኩራል።
3. የአማርኛና የታሪክ ትምህርት ፕሮግራሞች ለተማሪ ምርጫ ቀርበዉ ዩኒቨርሲቲዉን ሌጅስሌሽን (Legislation) ላይ የተቀመጡን ዝቅተኛ የተማሪ ቁጥር ማሟላት የሚችሉ ከሆነ በመጀመሪያ፣ ሁለተኛና ሦስተኛ ድግሪ እንዲማሩ ይደረጋል፡፡
4. ከላይ በተራ ቁጥር 3 በተጠቀሱት ትምህርት ክፍሎች ዉስጥ ያሉ መምህራን ከማስተማር ስራቸዉ ጎን ለጎን የማዕከሉ ተመራማሪ በመሆን ያገለግላሉ፡፡

Debre Berhan University has acquired a state-of-the-art Computed Tomography (CT) Scan machine (128 slice CT scan) at its Hakim Gizaw Hospital. This machine provides detailed images of any part of the body, including bones, muscles, and fat, organs, and blood vessels.

Dr. Tewodros Kifleyohanes, Chief Executive Director of Asrat Woldeyes Health Science Campus, emphasized the significance of the CT-Scan machine for the community in North Shewa and surrounding areas. DBU Hakim Gizaw Hospital serves a vast catchment area, including North Shoa, Amhara region, and parts of Afar, and Oromia regions. The deployment of the CT-Scan machine will bring this essential service closer to the community, eliminating the need for patients to travel to Addis Ababa for such scans. When the CT-Scan is successfully deployed, it will significantly improve the quality of service in the hospital by enabling faster and more accurate diagnoses.

 Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of Debre Berhan University, highlighted the impact of the CT-Scan machine on the hospital's services. It will significantly reduce the time and cost for patients, while also enhancing the hospital's ability to save lives. The university community is delighted to have acquired this advanced technology after overcoming various challenges.

 The acquisition of the CT-Scan machine is a major investment by Debre Berhan University in the health and well-being of the community. The hospital's commitment to providing the latest medical technology and excellent patient care will make it the best alternative for medical services in the surrounding community.

On May 8 and 9, 2024, senior engineers from Intel Corporation from USA visited Debre Berhan University (DBU). The delegation included Dr. Derssie Mebratu and Dr. Tesfaye (Senior AI Engineer and Professor, respectively). They were welcomed by Dr. Bethel Geremew, Director of International Relations and Partnership Directorate, and Dr. Getnet Ashenafi, Academic Vice President.

Intel Corporation had previously donated 10 High Performance Computing (HPC) servers and a switch to enhance DBU's ICT infrastructure. The engineers' visit aimed to assess the equipment's utilization.

Prior to their on-site visit, Dr. Yeshalem Gezahegn, Director of ICT Directorate at Debre Berhan University (DBU), presented a brief report to the representatives from Intel Corporation. The report covered DBU's current ICT infrastructure, future ICT road map and the status of the donated ICT equipment from Intel Corporation. This report provided the Intel representatives with a comprehensive overview of DBU's ICT capabilities and plans, as well as the impact of the donated equipment on the university's operations.

During the visit, Intel representatives confirmed the equipment's effective deployment and pledged continued support for academic, research, and innovation initiatives. They also emphasized DBU's role in digital transformation and community service, offering support in these areas.

The visit concluded with expressions of gratitude from DBU officials followed by the presentation of a recognition certificate to the representatives from the Academic Vice President, which had been prepared by the International Relations and Partnership Directorate.

Debre Berhan University has hosted a joint webinar with Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Two professors, Prof. Thomas Benz and Prof. Margareth Gefrerer spoke on the topics “Being a Faculty Member at a University of Applied Sciences and Knowledge Triangle: Education-Research-Innovation” respectively. The session was attended by the faculty members and students of DBU in the graduation hall and was reachable to audiences online. The talks were accompanied by discussions and concluded with remarks by the speakers and moderators. This webinar is one of the components of joint initiatives running by the two universities.

In a significant move towards digitization, Debre Berhan University (DBU) has initiated a shift from traditional paper-based exams to digital assessments using an E-learning platform known as the Learning Management System (LMS). This transition marks a pivotal moment in embracing technology-driven solutions that offer innovative services for the entire DBU community.

As part of the university's paperless service initiatives, DBU has embarked on conducting various exams, including both regular tests and final exams, through the online Learning Management System (LMS) platform. This shift underscores DBU's strong dedication to digitization, underscored by the establishment of a state-of-the-art ICT infrastructure and the fostering of digital literacy among students and staff members across the university.

With the capacity to accommodate more than 2000 students, DBU's homegrown LMS enables the seamless facilitation of university-wide online exams. This comprehensive online examination approach has been made possible through the collaborative efforts of the university management, academic departments, and the ICT directorate, showcasing a harmonious synergy among different university branches.

Moreover, DBU is actively working towards cultivating a robust E-learning environment, which includes the establishment of an E-learning multimedia studio to further enhance the educational experience for students and faculty members alike. This strategic focus on digital transformation not only modernizes the examination processes but also paves the way for a more dynamic and tech-integrated learning ecosystem at Debre Berhan University.

The president of Debre Berhan University, Dr. Nigus Tadesse joined by the coordinators from the internationalization and partnerships directorate had two decisive discussion sessions in Addis Ababa with the 37th AU meeting participants from different African countries.

One of these meetings was with His Excellency Mr. Ibrahima Cheikh Diong, the United Nations Assistant-Secretary General and Director General of the African Risk Capacity Group. The meeting led to pinpointing the major areas of partnerships which includes potential future project collaborations on issues related to climate change.

The other meeting was held with a team from African E-Trade Group (AeTrade) based in Kigali, Rwanda, and headed by the CEO Mr. Mulualem Syoum. A range of issues were raised and discussed on how DBU can work with this continental initiative in connecting small-scale enterprises with the university community, particularly the students and staff in the fields of business and agriculture. Potential areas of joint venture were identified, and the discussion is to continue towards entering into tangible and practical activities.

Internationalization Partnerships Directorate

Debre Berhan University has concluded the national exit exams, which took place in mid-February 2024. Over the past five days, students from various departments have gathered at Debre Berhan University to undertake their examinations. The university has implemented cutting-edge ICT infrastructure to streamline the exam process, ensuring that all technical support is readily accessible.

The university's exit-exam task force diligently adhered to all examination protocols to meet national quality assurance standards. Furthermore, supervisors appointed by the Ministry of Education oversaw the exams to ensure strict adherence to regulations and discipline. The national exit exams concluded smoothly and without any issues. The university's exit-exam task force expresses gratitude for the commitment and dedication shown by all participants during this examination period.

Examinees from various departments convene at Debre Berhan University to commence their exams in the morning session. DBU College of Agriculture and Natural Resources Management has launched a joint Ph.D. program in GIS and Remote Sensing with the Université Paris 8. It is one of the components of collaboration indicated in the MoU signed between the two universities. Three staff members from DBU have joined the program. This first batch of students have started the course work as of January 2024 with the French professors from Université Paris 8. This program is one of the Ph.D. programs that DBU launched as part of its transition to an Applied University. GIS and Remote Sensing is among the rarest fields ongoing at a Ph.D. level in Ethiopia.

Debre Berhan University Internationalization and Partnerships Directorate 

Debre Berhan University's College of Computing recently organized a curriculum review workshop on the undergraduate Data Science program. Dr. Nigus Tadese, President of Debre Berhan University, has attended at the event and delivered the opening speech. In his address, Dr. Nigus emphasized the growing importance of data science education nationally and globally, stating the university's commitment to prominence in this field. He stressed the need for a practical-oriented curriculum review, aligning with Debre Berhan's status as an Applied Science University and highlighting the university's pursuit of excellence in artificial intelligence.

The workshop included external evaluators from Addis Ababa University, Bahir Dar University, and the Ethiopian Institute of Artificial Intelligence. Participants from Debre Berhan University and invited guests engaged in discussions, offering feedback, comments, and questions aimed at enhancing the curriculum to meet industry standards.

The workshop concluded with remarks from Mr. Alebachew Chiche, Assistant Professor and Dean of the College of Computing, summarizing the feedback and recommendations for curriculum enhancement. Mr. Alebachew urged the curriculum development team to carefully consider all suggestions and comments from the evaluators to further improve the curriculum.

Thanks to the generous gift of the French Embassy of French language learning books counted over 60 and worth nearly 70, 000.00 ETB, DBU has created a section in the PG library called the “French language corner.” The books are well illustrated and useful for beginners of the French language. During the book reception, DBU was among the nine Ethiopian universities that signed a MoU with the Embassy to collaborate in introducing and strengthening French language teaching-learning in the universities.

 Recently DBU has also signed a MoU with Université Paris 8 and a joint PhD program in GIS and remote sensing is running. 

Debre Berhan University (DBU) has undergone a significant transformation, evolving into an Applied Science University. In response to this reclassification, the institution has re-engineered its pedagogical framework, shifting from conventional teaching methods to practical, skills-driven approaches. As part of this transformation, DBU organized a half-day training session entitled "Overview of Pedagogies for Practical Teaching."

At the commencement of the training, Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of DBU, underscored the imperative for academic staff to transition to outcome-focused education through practical teaching, reflecting a fundamental shift in the university's educational ethos. The training, conducted by Dr. Dereje Engda, President of Addis Ababa Science and Technology University (AASTU), emphasized scientific techniques, including experiential and project-based learning methodologies, covering elements such as planning, preparation, facilitation, and Evaluation. During the session, Dr. Abrham, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer at AASTU, shared valuable insights into AASTU's experiences with project-based learning, enriching the discourse with practical applications.

The discussions among participants centered on the implementation and trajectory of teaching methodologies, culminating in a shared understanding that DBU, now designed as an applied science university, must shift from conventional to practical-oriented pedagogical methodologies. Dr. Nigus Tadesse concluded the training by summarizing its key themes, urging academic staff to adopt this transformational shift, ensuring the facilitation of practical teaching and the cultivation of proficient graduates equipped with essential skills, attitude, and knowledge. Additionally, he directed middle-level managers and academic staff to wholeheartedly embrace the implementation of practical-oriented education, aligning with DBU's new mandate as an applied science university.

In a move to fortify the university's collaboration with industry, the members of DBU council undertook an official visit to the ICT park in Addis Ababa on January 27, 2024, in response to an invitation from the organization. The purpose of the visit was twofold: to provide DBU with vital insights into the application and utilization of ICT, nurturing its transition towards applied science, and to cultivate linkages with the industry for technological transfer and research collaboration opportunities. The ICT park, an essential member of DBU's industry advisory board, demonstrates industry's dedication to sharing cutting-edge technologies and deployment experiences in the ICT sector. Dr. Nigus Tadesse, president of the university, underscored the significance of this visit, highlighting the immense potential it holds for aligning DBU staff with the national ICT development goals, thus allowing them to contribute effectively toward their realization.

Mr. Henock, CEO of the ICT park, reaffirmed the park's readiness to support DBU's drive towards applied science through the established university-industry advisory board. He emphasized the park's pivotal role in integrating academia, research, product, and commercialization, creating an environment conducive to knowledge economy investments and attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI). Mr. Henock stressed the park's central role in technology transfer, also highlighting opportunities for joint research projects with companies in the park. The visit encompassed explorations of Raxio data center, Wingu Africa data center, and various ICT incubation centers. The university's dedicated focus on ICT projects stems from a recognition of their potential to make a significant real-world impact, aligning with broader educational development goals while expediting economic growth through the innovative and reliable application of technology.

Debre Berhan University has taken part in a two-day workshop jointly organized by the US Embassy and Ministry of Education from 16-17 January 2024. The workshop mainly targeted the point of developing strategic internationalization for higher education institutions in Ethiopia on their move toward becoming autonomous institutions. DBU was among the 15 universities selected to be part of this occasion (with only 5 from the 2nd generation and 3 from the University of Applied Sciences). The program was headed by Dr. Erich Dietrich, Vice Provost of New York University Abu Dhabi and an expert in the internationalization of higher education and equity in access to higher education. The workshop gave a chance to the Internationalization and Partnerships Directorate of DBU to share the DBU’s journey so far in this regard and acquire best practices from other participant universities. It also allowed to contact the different section heads of the US Embassy and discuss on possible future collaborative initiatives.

Internationalization and Partnerships Directorate of DBU

Debre Berhan University staff engaged in discussions about the forthcoming national exit exam, scheduled for the first week of February 2024. The focus of the dialogue centered around effectively coordinating the national exit exam within the university. Various teams, ranging from university-level to operational workers, have been organized to ensure the successful administration of the national exit exam.

During the meeting, Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of the university, briefed the staff on the strategies essential for the smooth conduct of the exit exam. Emphasizing the online nature of the exam, he stressed the importance of promptly verifying and rectifying any required infrastructure to ensure seamless operations. Additionally, he highlighted the necessity for proactive collaboration between the university's general service department and ICT directorate to oversee the functionality of essential infrastructures.

Following the discussion, all staff members expressed their preparedness to contribute to the successful execution of the exit exam. The meeting concluded with the president reiterating the key points and providing forward guidance on the upcoming tasks to be undertaken.

Recognizing the impact of results-focused performance agreements on institutional outcomes, Debre Berhan University Management formally signed work performance contract agreements with Deans and Directors on January 24, 2024, at the university senate hall. During the signing ceremony, Dr. Nigus Tadesse underscored the university's commitment to employing clear and targeted Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to effectively measure departmental and individual performance. He further directed all university sub-divisions to adhere to this hierarchical work performance agreement framework.

Following the agreement signing, Mr. Birhan Alayu, Director for Transformation and Good Governance, expressed that his office, in collaboration with the strategic planning office, will provide substantial support for implementing the agreements, ensuring that necessary resources are diligently allocated to achieve the university's vision and mission. The signing ceremony concluded with the formal exchange of documents among the signing parties.

Debre Berhan University conducted a community consultation with members of the Ankober town community concerning the development of the Indigenous Knowledge Research Center, situated 42 km from Debre Berhan. This site, located nearby the existing botanical garden in Ankober, serves as a hub for researching herbal medicine and indigenous knowledge. As part of the expansion plans, the university aims to establish additional sites dedicated to the study of indigenous knowledge, with a focus on integrating modern science and technology.

The consultation meeting commenced with an opening speech by Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of Debre Berhan University, stressing the importance of researching indigenous knowledge and herbal medicine, emphasizing their crucial role in utilizing medicinal plants for healthcare purposes. Dr. Azmeraw Ayehu, Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, highlighted the vital role of community support and expertise in the area for the successful development of research sites. He also underscored that expanding and developing these research Centers would significantly benefit the local community and the broader scientific community.

Participants from the community expressed their gratitude to Debre Berhan University for its dedicated efforts in developing the historical Ankober town through research on indigenous knowledge and herbal medicine, recognizing the preservation of ancestral wisdom. They also called for increased investment and job creation opportunities in the area. Dr. Amare Ayalew, Director of the DBU Botanical Garden and Herbal Medicine in Ankober, emphasized the need to reach a consensus with the community regarding the current Indigenous Knowledge Research Center, highlighting the mandatory protection and ownership of the site during research activities.

The consultation meeting concluded with Dr. Nigus reaffirming the commitment of Debre Berhan University to develop the Ankober Botanical Garden and Indigenous Knowledge Research Center. He expressed appreciation for the community's trust and willingness, emphasizing the university's dedication to the area's development.

The inaugural meeting of the Debre Behan University-Industry Linkage advisory board took place at the Harmony Hotel in Addis Ababa on January 18, 2024. Representatives from DBU and industry members who are part of the advisory board convened to initiate collaborative efforts. This advisory board was established on December 23, 2023, with the aim of fostering partnerships between Debre Berhan University and various industries.
During the meeting, Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of Debre Berhan University, emphasized the need to modernize traditional teaching practices and underscored the importance of industry collaboration in equipping graduates with essential knowledge and skills. He stressed education's pivotal role, highlighting the industries' responsibility to support and ensure the quality of education.
Discussions during the meeting centered on evaluating past performances of the University-Industry Linkage, as well as exploring the establishment of outcome-based University-Industry Linkage and collaborative research projects. Additionally, the conversation addressed identifying specific workforce needs within the industries.

Debre Berhan University offered training for academic technical assistants and department heads in practical University organizational structure, laboratory and practical teaching.

Dr. Nigus Tadese, Debre Berhan University President, who opened the training with a speech, said that the main objective of the training is to make the trainees understand the teaching and behavior of the University of Applied Sciences and to be able to provide quality practical education to the trainees. Taking this into consideration, our practical training sites are industries and the university's workshops and laboratories. The relationship with the industries is being strengthened and we should use the capabilities of our university sincerely. In addition, he said that we should work together to graduate skilled industrial professionals and entrepreneurs in order to be preferred by students.

Debre Berhan University took a significant step forward on December 23, 2023, by establishing the University-Industry Linkage Advisory Board during a forum held at Harmony Hotel in Addis Ababa. Dr. Nigus Tadesse, the President of Debre Berhan University, articulated the university active pursuit of its mission under the higher education proclamation as a comprehensive institution. However, with the recent reclassification designating the university as an Applied Science University, focus has shifted to practical-oriented teaching, research, and technology transfer. This transition has led to a dedicated effort to align the university activities with its new mandate by identifying priority fields of study.

Dr. Nigus emphasized the critical role of stakeholders and industries in this transition, underlining the university commitment to seeking collaborations in research and technology transfer to address the evolving workforce demands of various industries. የደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት ዶ/ር ንጉስ ታደሰ ለተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ ተፈታኝ ተማሪዎች ባስተላለፉት መልዕክት እንኳን ደህና መጣችሁ ካሉ በኋላ ተማሪዎች ሳይረበሹ ተረጋግተው መልካም ውጤት ለማምጣት መስራት እንዳለባቸው ገልጸዋል፡፡ የማህበራዊ ሳይንስ ተፈታኞች ከባለፈው አመት ከተፈተኑት አንጻር የተረጋጉ በመሆናቸው አመስግነው የተፈጥሮ ሳይንስም ተፈታኝ ተማሪዎች በስነ ምግባራችው የተሻሉ እንደሚሆኑ ተስፋ አደርጋለሁ ብለዋል፡፡እንደ ፕሬዚዳንቱ ገለጻ ተፈታኝ ተማሪዎች የ12 አመት ድካማቸው ውጤት እንዲያመጣ ለነገ ተስፋ በማድረግ ጥሩ ውጤት  ለማስመዝገብ  ፈተናችውን ተረጋግተው በመስራት ፤ትኩረታቸውን ፈተናቸው ላይ በማድረግ ውጤታማ እንዲሆኑ አሳስበዋል፡፡

በመቀጠል ተፈታኝ ተማሪዎች በዩኒቨርሲው ቆይታቸው ከደህንነት አንጻር ማድረግ  ያለባቸውንና የሌለባቸውን ጉዳዮች፤ ህግና ደንብ ማክበር  እናዳለባቸውና ተረጋግተው ሳይፈሩ ሳይጨነቁ  ፈተናቸውን መውሰድ እንዳለባቸው ፤ሰላምና ደህንነታቸውን ለመጠበቅ ከጎናቸው መሆናቸውን ኮማንደር መስፍን አዳነ ፌ/ፖሊስ ሰሜን ምስራቅ ምክትል መምሪያ ሃላፊ ገልጸዋል፡፡

ዶ/ር ገዛኽኝ ነጋና መ/ር ደጀኔ ሸዋቀና  ተማሪዎች አጠቃላይ ማድረግ ጠንካራ እንዲሆኑ. እንዳይጨነቁ ፣ለፈተናው ዝግጁ እንዲሆኑ፤ጊዜን በአግባቡ መጠቀም እንዳለባቸውና በፈተና ወቅት መያዝ ያለባቸውንና መፈተኛ ክፍሎቻቸውን  በተከታታይ ገልጸዋል፡፡
እንዲሁም የተማሪዎች አገልግሎት ዲን መምህር አለምነው መልካሙ  በዩኒቨርሲቲው የሚሰጡ የምግብ፣ የምኝታ፣ የህክምና የመዝናኛ አገልግሎቶች እንዴት መጠቀም እንዳለባቸው ገልጸዋል፡፡

ለተፈታኝ ተማሪዎች ስለ በመብትና ግዴታቸው፣ስለጊዜ አጠቃቀም፣የፈተና ወረቀት አጠቋቆር እንዲሁም የተከለከሉ ነገሮችንና ተዛማጅ ጉዳዮችን አስመልክቶ የፈተና ማዕከል አስተባባሪ አቶ ሙሉ ኣለም መኮነን ማብራሪያ ሰጥተዋል፡፡
በአጠቃላይ በዘንድሮው አመት በ2015 ዓ.ም በአገር አቀፍ 868074 የ12ኛ ክፍል  የማህበራዊና የተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ ተፈታኝ ተማሪዎች ፈተና እንደሚወስዱ ታውቋል፡፡ የተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ ተፈታን ተማሪዎች ከሀምሌ 25-28/2015 ዓ.ም ለአራት ቀናት ፈተና ይወስዳሉ፡፡

በኢንጂነሪንግና ኮምፒውቲንግ፣ በግብርናና ተፈጥሮ ሀብት ሳይንስ፣ እና በቢዝነስና ኢኮኖሚክስ ትምህርት ዘርፎች በዲግሪ ፕሮግራም ለማስተማር ዝግጅቱን አጠናቋል። ስለሆነም ለአዲስ አበባ በቅርብ ርቀት ላይ በምትገኘውና የሰላም ተምሳሌት በሆነችው ደብረ ብርሃን ከተማ የሚገኘውን ዩኒቨርሲቲያችንን በመምረጥ በሚከተሉት ፕሮግራሞች እንደየምርጫችሁ እንድትማሩ ግብዣውን ያቀርብላችኋል። 

የደብረብረሃን ዩንቨርሲቲ የ2015 ዓ.ም የትምርት ዘመን የተማሪዎች ምዝገባ ጥቅምት 26 እና  27/2/2015 ዓ.ም በመሆኑ ሁሉም መደበኛ  ቅድመ እና  ድህረ- ምረቃ ተማሪዎች በሙሉ በተገለፁት ቀናት በመገኘት እንዲትመዘገቡ እናሳስባለን፡፡

ማሳሰቢያ፡- ከተገለፁት ቀናት ቀድሞም ሆነ ዘግይቶ የሚመጣን ተማሪ የማንቀበል መሆኑን እንገልጻለን፡፡

የደ/ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዝደንት ንጉስ ታደሰ (ዶ/ር) በቆይታችሁ ብዙ ውጣውረዶችን አልፋችሁ ለቀጣይ ህይወታችሁ ወሳኝ ቀን ላይ በመድረሳችሁ እንኳን ደስ አላችሁ ሲሉ ለተመራቂ ተማሪዎቹ የተሰማቸውን ደስታ ገልጸዋል።

ድህነትን ማምከኛ ብቸኛው ትልቁ መሳሪያ ትምህርት እንደሆነ የገለጹት ፕሬዝደንቱ ዛሬ ኢትዮጵያን ከድህነት የማላቀቅና የበለጸገች አገር የመፍጠር ሀላፊነት ተቀብላችኋል ብለዋል።

ለአገር ልማት በሚደረገው እርብርብ ሁሉ የበኩላችሁን በመወጣት በትምህርት ያገኛችሁትን እውቀትና ችሎታ በተግባር አስመስክሩ ሲሉ ተናግረዋል። እውቀታችሁን ለበጎ ሥራ በማዋልና በጥብቅ ስነ ምግባር በመምራት ብቻ ያስተማራችሁን ማህበረሰብ በማገልገል ውለታውን መልሱ ብለዋል።

የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ም/የቦርድ ሰብሳቢ ፕሮፌሰር አብርሐም ኃይለአምላክ ሀገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ደሀ ብትሆንም በበርካታ ውስጣዊና ውጫዊ ችግሮች ብትፈተንም በትምህርት ሂደቱ ላይ እየሰራች ያለችውን በርካታ ስራዎች አጠናክራ ቀጥላለች ብለዋል። ሀገራችን በትምህርት ላይ የምታደርገው ኢንቨስትመንት በእውቀትና በክህሎት የበለጸገ የሰው ሀይል ለሀገራዊ እድገት ወሳኝ መሆኑን በመገንዘብ ነው ብለዋል። እናንተም የዚህ ሰፊ ኢንቨስትመንት ውጤት በመሆናችሁ በሰለጠናችሁበት የሙያ መስክ ስራን ከቀጣሪዎች በመፈለግ ብቻ ሳይሆን የሥራ ፈጣሪ በመሆን ለሀገራችሁ ሁለንተናዊ ለውጥና እድገት የበኩላችሁን በመወጣት ታሪክ ሰሪ እንድትሆኑ ሲሉ ተናግረዋል።

ፕሮፌሰሩ አክለውም ስራን በወሬ ሳይሆን በተግባር የምታረጋግጡ፣ ህዝባችሁንና ሀገራችሁን በቅንነት፣ በታማኝነትና በታታሪነት የምታገለግሉ በሥራ ዘመናችሁ ሁሉ የመፍትሄ አመንጪ እንጂ ችግር ፈጣሪ እንዳትሆኑ ሲሉ ተናግረዋል።

ለቀጣይ የህይወት ምእራፍ ጅማሮ ከወዲሁ ዝግጅት በመጀመርም እስከአሁን ያካበታችሁትን እውቀት፣ ክህሎትና ጥበብን ሰንቃችሁ በገጠመኞቻችሁ እየተፈተናችሁ ህዝባችሁን ከወዲሁ ለማገልገል መዘጋጀት አለባችሁ ብለዋል።

3.94 አጠቃላይ ውጤት በማምጣት ከህግ ትምህርት ክፍል ተማሪ ገሊላ ወጋየሁ የወርቅና የሜዳሊያ ተሸላሚ ሆናለች።

በአሁኑ ወቅት ዩኒቨርሲቲው በቅድመ ምረቃና ድህረ ምረቃ ፕሮግራሞች በመጀመሪያ፣ በሁለተኛ እና በሦስተኛ ዲግሪ የትምህርት መርሐ-ግብሮች ከ24 ሺህ በላይ ተማሪዎችን እያሰለጠነ ይገኛል።

 የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአስራት ወልደየስ ጤና ሳይንስ ካምፓስ ዋና ስራ አስፈጻሚ ዶ/ር ቴዎድሮስ ክፍለዮሀንስ  ባደረጉት ንግግር ሀገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ከፍተኛ የሆነ የጤና ባለሙያ እጥረት ካለባቸው አገሮች አንዷ መሆኗን ተናግረው የጤና ባለሙያዎችን  ቁጥር ከፍ ለማድረግም ቀን ከሌሊት እየሰራች ትገኛለች ብለዋል፡፡

አያይዘውም ሀገራችን ኢትዮጵያ በአሁን ሰዓት ባጋጠማት የህልውና አደጋ ዘመቻ በርካታ ወገኖቻችን የእናንተን ድጋፍና እርዳታ በሚሹበት ወቅት በመመረቃችሁ ትልቅ ኃላፊነት እንዳለባችሁ አውቃችሁ ተመርቃችሁ ወጥታችሁ በጥሩ ስነ ምግባር የታነጻችሁ ሆናችሁ በሙያችሁ የወገናችሁን ስቃይ የምታስታግሱ እንድትሆኑ አደራ እላለሁ ሲሉም መልእክታቸውን አስተላልፈዋል፡፡

ዋና ስራ አስፈጻሚው  እንደተናገሩት  የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ከ2014 ዓ.ም ጀምሮ በአስራት ወልደየስ የጤና ሳይንስ ካምፓስ በህክምናና በጤና ሳይንስ ዘርፍ ዘመኑ በደረሰበት ቴክኖሎጂ የታገዘ ስልጠና ለመስጠት ዝግጅቱን አጠናቋል ብለዋል፡፡

በአማራ ክልል የሰሜን ሸዋ ዞን ጤና መምሪያ ኃላፊ አቶ ገስጥ ጥላሁን ባደረጉት ቁልፍ ንግግር ሃገራችን ኢትዮጵያ ያጋጠሟትን  እንቅፋቶች በከፍተኛ ትእግስት አልፋችሁ ለዚህ ምረቃ በመብቃታችሁ እንኳን ደስ አላችሁ ብለዋል፡፡ ክቡር የሆነውን የሰው ልጅ ህይወት ልትታደጉ ስለበቃችሁም ትልቅ ኩራት ሊሰማችሁ ይገባል ብለው ሃገራችን አሁን ላይ ካጋጠሟት የሰላም እጦት የተነሳ ድርብ ሃላፊነት እንዳለባቸው ተናግረዋል፡፡

ኃላፊው በንግግራቸው የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የጤናውን ዘርፍ ለማሳደግ የሚያስችሉ የእውቀት፣ የክህሎትና የተግባቦት ስልጠናዎችን እየሰጠ  አቅም ያለው የሰለጠነ የሰው ሃይል የማፍራት ተልእኮውን እየተወጣ እንደሚገም ገልጸዋል፡፡

በእለቱ የስራ መመሪያ የሰጡት የአማራ ብሄራዊ ክልላዊ መንግስት ኢንቨስትመንት ቢሮ ኃላፊ አቶ ግርማ የሽጥላ እንዳሉት ህብረተሰቡ፣ቤተሰባችሁና ዩኒቨርሲቲው ለዛሬዋ ቀን ሲያበቋችሁ የስራ ታታሪነትን፣ስነ-ምግባርንና የስራ ችሎታን በማጎናጸፍ ሲሆን ከዚህ በኋላም ራሳችሁን በማያቋርጥ የማብቃት ኃላፊነት ውስጥ አድርጋችሁ ሀገራችሁንና ህዝባችሁን እንድታገለግሉ በማለት የስራ መመሪያ ሰጥተዋል፡፡

 የደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት ንጉስ ታደሰ (ዶ/ር) ባደረጉት የመክፈቻ ንግግር የአፕላይድ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች የ2014 እቅድ ግምገማዊ ስልጠና መድረክ በመካከላችን ስርዓት ያለው ትስስርንና ግንኙነታችንን ለማጠናከር፤ልምድና ተሞክሮ ለማግኘት ሀገር በቀል እውቀትና ዘመኑን የዋጀ የፈጠራና የቴክኖሎጂ ውጤቶችን በመጠቀም የህብረተሰባችንን እና የሀገራችንን ችግሮች ለመፍታት ጠቀሜታው ከፍተኛ ነው ብለዋል፡፡

ፕሮፌሰሩ አክለውም አሁን ባለው ሁኔታ የዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ቁጥር አሁን ካለው የህዝብ ብዛት አንፃር በቂ አለመሆኑን ተናግረው ጥራት ላይ በማተኮር በአለም አቀፍ ደረጃ ተወዳዳሪ ለመሆን የሰው ሀይል ልማታችን ከፍተኛ መሆን አለበት ብለዋል፡፡

በሚኖረው የሁለት ቀናት ቆይታም የ2014 ዓ.ም እቅዶቻቸውን 15ቱም የአፕላይድ ሳይንስ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች በተከታታይ እንደሚያቀረቡም ታውቋል፡፡

 

የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት ንጉስ ታደሰ (ዶ/ር) እንዳሉት በዩኒቨርሲቲያችን የተዘጋጀው የዘንድሮው የአረንጓዴ አሻራ ችግኝ ተከላ መርሀ ግብር ለየት የሚያደርገው የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የሳይንስና ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ሚኒስተር ባዘጋጀው አጠቃላይ ዓመታዊ የስራ አፈጻጸም ምዘና ከአፕላይድ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ተወዳድሮ አንደኛ ደረጃን በማግኘቱና የኢቲዮጵያ ታላቁ ህዳሴ ግድብ ሁለተኛ ዙር ሙሌት በስኬት በመጠናቀቁ ነው ብለዋል፡፡ ባገኘነው ድል ላይ ሆነን ተጨማሪ ድል ለማስመዝገብ ጠንክረን የምንሰራበት ጊዜ ነውም ሲሉ አክለዋል፡፡

በ2011 እና በ2012 ዓ/ም በዞኑ በሚገኙ የደብረ ብርሃን ከተማ፣ አንጎለላና  ጠራ፣ ሞጃና ወደራ ወረዳዎች የተለያዩ ሀገር በቀል ችግኞችን ለማህበረሰቡ በማሰራጨትና በመትከል የበኩሉን አስተዋጽኦ ያበረከተው ዩኒቨርሲቲያችን በዚህ ዓመትም ለአካባቢው የሚጠቅሙ በምርምር የተሞከሩና የአካባቢውን የአየር ጸባይ ተቋቁመው ውጤታማ መሆን የሚችሉ ከ1 መቶ 50 ሺህ በላይ ሀገር በቀል ችግኞችን በራሳችን በማዘጋጀት ለአካባቢው ማህበረሰብ እየተከፋፈለ እንደሚገኝ ተናግረዋል፡፡

ችግኝ መትከል ልጅን ተንከባክቦና ኮትኩቶ ለሃገር እንዲጠቅም አድርጎ እንደማሳደግ ነው ያሉት ፕሬዚዳንቱ ለኣካባቢ፣ ለሃገርና ለአለም ማህበረሰብ ትልቅ ትርጉም አለው ሉት ፕሬዚዳንቱ ችግኝ መትከል አካባቢን የማስዋብ፣ አየር ንብረትን የመጠበቅና ንጹህ አየር የማግኘት ጉዳይ እንደሆነም ነው የገለጹት፡፡

ፕሬዚዳንቱ አክለውም ከአጎራባች ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ጋር በጋራ በወንድማማችነት መንፈስ ችግኝ ስንተክል የከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት እንደ አሁኑ በጋራ ለሀገርና ለማህበረሰቡ  የሚተርፉ ስራዎችን እንድንሰራና አቅም የመፍጠር ባህላችንም እያጎለበተ እንዲሄድ ስለሚያግዝ ነው ብለዋል፡፡ በቀጣይም ከኮተቤ ምትሮፖሊታንትና ሰላሌ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ጋር ለሚኖረን የሁለትዮሽ ጥምረት መሰረት የምንጥልበት እለት ነውም ብለዋል፡፡

በሰላሌ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የግብርናና ተፈጥሮ ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ ዲንና የልኡካን ቡድኑ አስተባባሪ ወ/ሮ የሸዋድንበር መኮንን ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲና ሰላሌ ዩኒቨርሲቲ የጋራ ከሚያደርጓቸው ጉዳዮች አንዱ የጋራ ተጠቃሚ ወረዳዎች ያሏቸው መሆኑና በጋራ ለማልማትም ምቹ እድል መኖራቸው እንደሆነ ተናግረዋል፡፡ ሁለቱም ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች በአባይ የላይኛው ተፋሰስ ቦታዎች ውስጥ የሚገኙ እንደመሆናቸውም የአባይ ወንዝ በደለል እንዳይሞላ የልማት ስራዎችን በጋራ ለመስራት የሚያስችላቸው ነባራዊ ሁኔታዎች አሉ ሲሉም ነው የገለጹት፡፡

ወ/ሮ የሽዋድንበር መኮንን አክለውም ዛሬ የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ያዘጋጀው የአረንጓዴ አሻራ ችግኝ ተከላ መርሀ ግብር በጥናትና ምርምር ማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ቀጣይ ስራዎችን በጋራ እንድንሰራ መሰረት የጣለ ነው ሲሉ ተናግረዋል፡፡

በኮተቤ ሜትሮፖሊታንት ዩኒቨርሲቲ የአካዳሚክ ጉዳዮች ምክትል ፕሬዚዳንት ደሞወዝ አድማሱ (ዶ/ር) ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ በተከታታይ ጊዜያት ቀዳሚ ደረጃን በመያዝ ትልቅ ተስፋን ያነገበና ለሌሎች ዩኒቨርሲቲዎችም አርአያ የሆነ ዩኒቨርሲቲ እየሆነ መምጣቱን ጠቁመው ከመማር ማስተማር ስራው በዘለለ የአረንጓዴ አሻራ የማስቀመጥ ሌጋሲ አዘጋጅቶ አጎራባች ዩኒቨርሲቲዎችን ሲጠራ ልማቱም ጥፋቱም የጋራችን እንደሆነ በማሰብ ነው ብለዋል፡፡ በአንድ አካል ብቻ የሚሰራ ስራ ሙሉ አይደለም ያሉት የኮተቤ ሜትሮፖሊታንት ዩኒቨርሲቲ ም/ፕሬዚዳንት ዶ/ር ደምወዝ አድማሱ ዛሬ የጀመርነውን በጋራ የመስራት ባህል ሌሎችም ተቋማት የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲን ምሳሌ መከተል እንዳለባቸው ተቁመዋል፡፡

በፌደራል የኢኖቬሽንና ቴክኖሎጂ ሚኒስተር የአይሲቲ ዘርፍ ዳይሬክተር ጀነራል ደ/ር ኢንጅነር አብዮት ሲናሞ በበኩላቸው የዛሬው መርሀ ግብር ሀገራችን የጀመረችውን የአረንጓዴ አሻራ መርሀ ግብር የሚያስቀጥልና የዚሁ አካል መሆኑን ገልጸው ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች በቅንጅት ህብረትና አንድነትን ፈጥረው አሻራቸውን የሚያኖሩበት በአይነቱ የተለየ መርሀ ግብር ነው ብለዋል፡፡

በአረንጓዴ አሻራ ስራችን ተስማሚ የአየር ጸባይ በማምጣትና ዝናብን በማሻሻል ረገድ ውጤቶች እየታዩ በመምጣታቸው የአፈር መሸርሸርን ለማስቀረት፣ ውሃን በመቋጠር ምርትና ምርታማነትን ለማሳደግና ዘላቂ ልማትን ለማረጋገጥ ጠቀሜታው የጎላ ስለሆነ ማህበረሰቡና ሌሎች ተቋማትም ሊማሩበት የሚገባ አርአያነት ያለው ተግብር እንደሆነም ተናግረዋል፡፡

ዳይሬክተሩ አክለውም በዚህ ዘርፍ የኢኖቬሽን ቴክኖሎጂ ሚንስቴር እንደ ሀገር የችግኝ ተከላ ሂደቱንና  ከተከላ በኋላ የሚኖሩ ድጋፎችን በቴክኖሎጂ የታገዘ ድጋፍ በማድረግ ላይ እንደሆነም ተናግረዋል፡፡

On the ceremony, Dr.Nigus Tadesse, Debre Berhan University president, congratulated all the 2013 E.C graduates and  said that the university community withstanding the covid- 19 pandemic challenges and continued the 2012 E.C academic year calendar as well as the 2013 E.C academic calendar in full commitment and courage. He added that the University had undergone two very crucial events which focused on the fill of Ethiopian Great Renaissance Dam and external enforcement to discontinue its construction and on the 6^th national election of Ethiopia on the role and responsibility of scholars and civic society.

Dr.Samuel Kifle, MoSHE, State Minister, also conveyed his warm congratulatory message to the graduates and said that Higher Education Institution play invaluable role to secure Ethiopia’s prosperity in innovating and adapting new technologies which could alleviate backwardness and ignorance of the people burden. In addition, MoSHE since its establishment worked to differentiate Universities in Ethiopia according to their specialization and excellences which they entirely experiencing and allocating resources. Taking this in to consideration, Debere Berhan University is marked as applied university. Furthermore, MoSHE, planed to work in collaboration with the community and to guide, monitor and supervise the universities in the country.     

Finally, DBU awarded cups to two top scorers, namely Getachew Alemayehu from Agriculture and Natural Resources College of Agro Economics College and Etalemahu Demisew from Business and Economics college of Economics Department. They said that they used their time effectively and manage all their activities so as to be effective in their future career.

የደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚዳንት ዶ/ር ንጉስ ታደሰ በእንኳን ደህና መጣችሁና በመክፈቻ ንግግራቸው በዩኒቨርሲቲው የኢንዱስትሪ ትስስር ዙሪያ ጅምር ስራዎች መኖራቸውን የገለፁ ሲሆን እስካሁን የተሰራው ስራ አመርቂ አለመሆኑንም ጠቁመዋል፡፡መንግስት ለተቋማት ትስስር ትኩረት በመስጠት ቀድሞ የነበረውን የዩኒቨርሲቲ ኢንዱስትሪ ትስስር በአሁኑ ጊዜ ሌሎችንም ተቋማት አካታች ባደረገ መልኩ የከፍተኛ ትምህርትና ስልጠና ፣ የምርምር ተቋማትና ኢንዱስሪ ትስስር በሚል የቴክኒክና ሙያ ስልጠና ኮሌጆችንና የምርምር ተቋማትን የሚያካትት ሆኖ ተዘጋጅቷል ብለዋል፡፡ ፕሬዚዳንቱ አክለውም በአካባቢው የሚገኙ የኢንዱስትሪዎች ብዛት ብቻውን ግብ ስለማይሆን እያንዳንዱ ተቋም በትብብር ለመስራት በሩን ክፍት ማድረግ አለበት በማለት ተናግረዋል፡፡ እንዲሁም ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ በቀጣይ አንዲሰራባቸው በተመረጡ የትኩረት አቅጣጫዎች ማለትም በኢንጅነሪግ ፣በጤና፤በቢዝነስና ኢኮኖሚክስ እና በግብርናው ዘርፍ አመርቂ ስራዎችን በመስራት በዙሪያው ለሚገኙ ኢንዱስትሪዎች የሰለጠነ የሰው ሀይልማፍራት የአካባቢውን ህብረተሰብ የመልማት ችግር የሚቀርፍ ጥናትና ምርምር በስፋትና በጥራት ለመስራት የቅድመ ዝግጅት ስራዎች መከናወናቸውን ተናግረዋል ፡፡ ከቀረቡት ፕሮጀክቶች ውስጥ አንዱ ደብረ ብርሃን ከተማ የምታሳየውን ፈጣን እድገት የሚመጥን የተቀናጀ መዋቅራዊ ፕላን ለመስራት የተዘጋጀው እቅድ ይገኝበታል በማለት ገልጸዋል፡፡ይህ እቅድ ከተማዋ ለሚቀጥሉት ሰላሳ ዓመታት የምታደርገውን እድገት ታሳቢ በማድረግ የተዘጋጀ ሲሆን በሰሜን ሸዋ ዞን ያለውን የኢንቨስትመንት አቅም ለይቶ በመሰነድ ባለሃብቶች ሊሰማሩ የሚችሉባቸውን እና ዘለቄታዊ የሆነ ሀብት ማፍራት የሚችሉባቸውን የኢንቨስትመንት አይነቶች ለመለየት ታስቦ እየተሰራ ይገኛል ብለዋል፡፡

ክቡር አቶ ገዱ አንዳርጋቸው ባደረጉት ቁልፍ ንግግር ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች እውቀታቸውን ለአካባቢው ማህበረሰብ በማዋል የህብረተሰቡን የኑሮ እድገት ማፋጠን አለባቸው ብለዋል፡፡ አዳዲስ ምርምሮችን በማድረግም ከከተማዋ የእድገት ፍጥነት ጋር እኩል የሚራመድና በአካባቢው ለልማት የሚደረገውን ጥረት በማገዝና ከአካባቢው ማህበረሰብ ጋር ትስስር መፍጠር ይገባል ሲሉ አክለዋል፡የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የልማቶች ሁሉ አውራ የሆነውን ትውልድን የመቅረፅ ስራ ከመስራቱ በዘለለ በአካባቢው የሚደረገውን ልማት ለማገዝ የደብረ ብረሃን ከተማን ሮድ ማፕ አዘጋጅቶ ወደ ትግበራ እንዲገባ ትልቅ ስራ በመስራቱ ሊመሰገን ይገባል በማለት ክቡር አቶ ገዱ አንዳርጋቸው  ተናግረዋል፡፡ዩኒቨርሲቲው በዚህ ጥረቱ ወደፊት ብዙ ልምድ የሚቀሰምበት፣የሀገራችን ትልቅና ሞዴል ዩኒቨርሲቲ እንደሚሆን አልጠራጠርም ብለዋል፡፡

የሳይንስና ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ሚንስቴር ሚኒስትር  ዴኤታ ፕሮፌሰር አፈወርቅ ካሱ“ ትስስር በሳይንስና ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ዘርፍ ፖሊሲና ስትራቴጅ” በሚል ርዕስ- ባቀረቡት ጽሁፍ ቁልፍ የትስስር ፖሊሲ መሰረታዊ ጉዳዮችን  አንስተው የኢንዱስትሪዎችና ከፍተኛ ትምህርት ተቋማት በአተገባበር ሂደት ትስስራቸው ላይ ስጋት አለ ሲሉም ተናግረዋል፡፡ስጋቱን ለመቅረፍም የኢንዱስትሪዎችን ትስስር ማጠናከር ይገባል ነው ያሉት፡፡

ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ  የሰሜን ሸዋ አካባቢ የልማት ኮሪደር ለማፋጠን፤ ከኢንዱስትሪዎች ጋር ትስስርን ለማጠናከር፤ የማህበረሰብ  ችግር ለመፈታትና ከአጋር አካላት ጋር በመሆን  የትኩረት አቅጣጫዎችን በመለየት ተመራማሪዎች በሚያከናውኑት ጥናት መሰረት የትግበራ ስልት በመንደፍ ወደ ስራ  እየተገባ መሆኑን ዶ/ር አዝመራው አየሁ የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የጥናትና ምርምር ማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ም/ፕሬዚዳንት ገልጸዋል፡፡   

በእለቱም ”የተቋማዊ ትስስር ልምድ ልውውጥ ” በፕ/ር ዳንኤል ቅጣው፣ “በደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ የሚሰሩ ፕሮጀክቶች የዳሰሳ ጥናት” በዶ/ር አዝመራው አየሁ”የደብረብርሃን ከተማ መዋቅራዊ ፕላን” በዶ/ር ጌታመሳይ፣ ” ሞደል የመንደር ፕሮጀክት፤ በዶ/ር አውራሪስ ሀይሉ፣ “የሰሜን ሽዋ ዞን የኢንቨስትመንት አቅም” በዶ/ር ፈለቀ ባዩ፣ “የታሪክ፣ የባህል ቅርስ ጥበቃ ለዘላቂ ቱሪዝም ልማት” በዶ/ር ዘመነወርቅ ዮሃንስ፣ “ዘላቂ የስራ ፈጠራና የክህሎት እድገት” በሰለሞን እስጢፋኖስ በሚሉ ርዕሰ ጉዳዮች  በተከታታይ ጥናታዊ ጽሁፎች  ቀርበው ውይይት የተደረገባቸው ሲሆን ከተሳታፊዎች በተነሱት ሀሳቦችና ጥያቄዎች በክቡር አቶ ገዱ አንዳርጋቸው  የጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ የደህንነት ልዩ አማካሪ ፣ በአቶ መላኩ አለበል የንግድና ኢንዱስትሪ ሚኒስቴር ሚንስትር  እና በዶ/ር ንጉስ ታደሰ የደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ፕሬዚደንት የማብራሪያና  የማጠቃለያ ሃሳቦች ተሰጥቶባቸዋል፡፡ በመጨረሻም  በምኒሊክ ቴክኖሎጂ ኢንስቲትዩት ግንባታ የማስፋፊያ  ስራ ከፍተኛ አስተዋጽኦ ላደረጉ አካላት  የእውቅናና የምስጋና የምስክር ወረቀት ተስጥቷል፡፡

አቀናጅቶ ሰዎች እርስ በርሳቸው በስምምነትና በኅብረት ተፋቅረው እንዲኖሩ የሚያደርግ ህግ ወይም የሰላም መሳሪያ ማለት ነው፡፡ባህል የሰዎችን ሕይወት በልዩ ልዩ ምክንያት እንዳይሰናከል በጎዎችን እያጠነከረ መጥፎዎችን እየተወ የማኅበረሰብን የመኖር ዋስትና የሚያረጋግጥ ቀጣይ ሕይወት አኗኗርንም በተስፋ የሚያለመልም መፅናኛ ነው፡፡በተያያዘም የአውደ ጥናቱ ዓለማ ባህላችን ለሀገራችን ሰላም፣ ፍቅርና አንድነት መሰረት መሆኑን በተለያዩ የምርምር ውጤቶች የምንረዳበት ጠንካራና ሙያዊ ሃሳቦችን በመቀበል ወደፊት የተሻለ ለመሥራት መነሻ የምናገኝበት ሀገር በቀል እውቀቶችን ለማሳደግ ምክክር የምናደርግበት ልዩ ዓመታዊ ጉባኤ ነው በማለት ተናግረዋል፡፡

የእለቱ የክብር እንግዳ የባህልና ቱሪዝም ሚኒስቴር ሚንስትር ዶክተር ሒሩት ካሳው ባስተላለፉት መልዕክት፤ ባህላችን ካለው እምቅ አቅም ሊፈጥር ከሚችለው ሀብት፣ የገፅታ ግንባታ፣ሊቀጥር ከሚችለው የሰው ሀይል፣ ሊያስተናግድ ከሚችለው የኢንዱስትሪ አቅም አንፃር፣ሊያመጣ ከሚችለው ማህበራዊ ትስስር፣ ሀገራዊ መግባባትና ፖለቲካዊ መረጋጋት አኳያ ሲመዘን አሁን እያበረከተ ያለው አስተዋጽኦ ቀላል የሚባል አይደለም ብለዋል፡፡

በዓውደ ጥናቱ ላይ የኃይማኖት አባቶች፣ የተለያዩ ዩኒቨርስቲዎች ምሁራን፣ የደብረ ብርሃን ዩንቨርስቲ መካከለኛና ከፍተኛ አመራሮች፣ በዞኑ የሚገኙ መንግስታዊና መንግስታዊ ያልሆኑ ተቋማት ተወካዮች እና ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው እንግዶች እየተሳተፉ ይገኛሉ፡፡

On the occasion, Gezahegn Degefe/PhD/, Representative of DBU Vice President for Research and Community Service and Research Directorate Director, made an opening speech. He said that DBU is working on adapting, multiplying, preserving and using a large number of indigenous medicinal plants at the Ankober Project Site. He added that there are about 600 to 1,000 species of medicinal plants in Ethiopia. Dr.Gezahegn, said that Researchers at Debre Berhan University have confirmed over 147 medicinal plants in North Shoa which are helpful for human treatment and 46 are also being used by the community for veterinary medicine.

On the seminar, four research papers were presented for discussion. These papers were; `Traditional Medicine In pervious and Today` by Abiyu Tilahun/PhD/,` Herbal Medicine Preparation and Indigenous Knowledge in North Shoa` by Mesfin Woldeargay /PhD/, `Fast Technique of Indigenous Knowledge Implementation for Improvement of the Health System of the society` by Amare Ayalew/PhD/ DBU Ankober Herbal Medicine and Biodiversity Conservation Directorate Director and `Traditional Medicine Knowledge Transfer Model Agreement` by Mr.Tadesse Worku Ethiopian Intellectual Property Office Intellectual Property Development Director.

In addition to traditional Healer Beshah Mersha shared his experience and he described the struggles they passed through many ups and down to gain the knowledge as it is secretly transferred from families.

Finally, discussion held and the participant raised different questions, gave suggestion and the way forward.  Debre Berhan University is ready to work with traditional healers; it was stated in the closing program. A signing ceremony was also held with traditional healers to work in collaboration.

Welcoming the participants, Ato Dereje Ajibie,Debre Berhan University Academic Affairs Vice President and DBU President Representative, said that the 3^rd Ethiopian Public Universities Internationalization and Partnership Directors Forum is considered as a  good opportunity to share best experience and take lessons. He welcomed and hoped the participants to entertain the forum and get best lessons.

Opening the forum, Ato Desalegn Samuel MoSHE Ministry Head, said that nowadays Universities are outshining in research and solving the communities problems. Internationalization the universities is not yet strengthened as the demand required. Creating strong linkage among Universities nationwide and at global level is very crucial and it will help them to ensure quality and standard of the Universities. He added that MoSHE strived to formulate Internationalization policy and framework which Universities guided by and inculcating it in the curriculum.

Haregewoin Fentahun /PhD/,MoSHE Senior Advisor, presented paper on “Scholarship in Ethiopia”. She verified the opportunities, challenges and the way forwards in scholarship programs in Ethiopia. Delasa Bulcha /PhD,MoSHE Senior Advisor, also presented paper on Higher Education Institutions Internationalization and the Way forward”. He recommended Universities to seek all kind of partnership through modern technologies.

Finally the participants raised different questions, suggestions, comments and their concerns regarding human power and structure, management bodies’ commitments, budget and other expenses for foreign currencies. All the presenters confirmed that the comments and suggestions to be entertained, and the questions which need clarification were clarified, and forwarded to the concerned bodies.

2. አንሶላ፤ ብርድልብስ እና የእስፖርት ትጥቅ አሟልተው መምጣት ይኖርባቸዋል

ተማሪዎች ወደዩኒቨርሲቲያችን መጥተው እንዲመዘገቡ ከተፈቀደው ቀን ውጪ ቀድመውም ሆነ ዘግይተው ቢመጡ የማንቀበል መሆኑን እናሳውቃለን፡፡

በመክፈቻ ፕሮግራሙ ላይ ንግግር ደረጉት አቶ አህመድ መሀመድ የኮሙኒኬሽን ጉዳዮች ዳይሬክቶሬት ዳይሬክተር እንዳሉት የውድድሩ ዋነኛ አላማ የትውልድ የስነ-ምግባር ግንባታ እሴት ስራ በትውልዱ ተገቢውን ግንዛቤ እንዲያገኝ ለማስቻልና የመልካም የስነ-ምግባር ግንባታ ስራዎችን ለማከናወን መሆኑን ጠቁመዋል፡፡

ጥያቄውን ያዘጋጀው የፌዴራል ስነ-ምግባርና ፀረ-ሙስና ኮሚሽን ሲሆን የዩኒቨርሲቲው የሥነ- ምግባር  ፀረ-ሙስና  ዳይሬክቶሬት አስተባባሪነት በደብረብርሃን  ዩኒቨርሲቲ በዋናው ግቢ በሶስት ቡድኖች ማለትም በዋናው ግቢ/ ሶሻል ሳይንስ፣ግብርና፣ቢዝነስና ኢኮኖሚክስ፣ህግ፣ተፈጥሮና ቀመር ሳይንስ፣ኮምፒውቲንግ/፣በአስራት ወልደየስ መታሰቢያ ጤና ካምፓስ/ጤና ሳይንስና ህክምና ኮሌጆች/፣በአጼ ሚኒሊክ ቴክኖሎጅ ካምፓስ ኢንጂነሪንግ ኮሌጅ  ከጠዋቱ 3:30 ሰዓት ጀምሮ ተጋባዥ ታዳሚ ተማሪዎች በተገኙበት በግቢ ደረጃ በተማሪዎች መካከል የጥያቄና መልስ ውድድር ተካሄዷል፡፡

የሥነ- ምግባር ፀረ-ሙስና ዳይሬክቶሬት ዳይሬክተር ተወካይ አቶ ይሁን ሽፈራው እንዳሉት በተማሪዎች መካከል የተደረገው የተማሪዎች የስነ-ምግባር ጥያቄና መልስ ውድድር አላማው የትውልድ ስነ-ምግባር ግንባታ ሂደትን የበለጠ አጉልተው የሚያሳዩ አስተምህሮ ምንነት ግልጽ ለማድረግ እና በዩኒቨርሲው በሚማሩ ተማሪዎች መካከል የስነ-ምግባር ጥያቄና መልስ ውድድር በማካሄድ አሸናፊዎችን በመለየት በዩኒቨርሲቲና በሀገር አቀፍ ደረጃ በመሸለም ተማሪዎችን በማነቃቃት፣ በስነ-ምግባር ዙሪያ የሚኖራቸውን ግንዛቤ እና ተግባራዊነት ድርሻ ለማሳደግ መሆኑን ገልጸዋል፡፡

የጥያቄና መልስ ውድድሩ በቀጣይ ሚያዚያ 19 ቀን 2013 ዓ.ም በዩኒቨርሲቲ ደረጃ ለሚሄደው ውድድር አሸናፊዎችን በመለየት ተጠናቋል፡፡

 On the opening ceremony the key note speaker, Dr.Dula Tolera, Ministry of Science and Higher Education Science Culture Building Directorate Director said that Ethiopia has a lot of wealth in science, technology and mathematics as it witness to our heritages, calendar, its own alphabets and environmental protection and etc. In addition the country has planned to inaugurate STEM centers and Programs to advance the science culture. This science week will pave a way for the University’s future in building science and technology cultures enrich graduates.   

On his welcoming speech Azmeraw Ayehu /PhD/, Debre Berhan University, Research and Community Service Vice President and the President’s Representative, said that in the 21^st century science, technology and innovation are leading the world's economy, social and political changes. Debre Berhan University has worked in organizing innovation and Technology Directorate and different research centers to support STEM centers. The University also inaugurated STEM power centre and has been offering training to students from grade 7^th to 12^th who ranked higher in each grade level and who have more interests on STEM at the weekend. He added that the country’s low value, low productivity and low technological economic activities has to be transformed to higher value, higher productivity and high technological economic activities offering science and technology assisted training and producing skilled man power.    

On the occasion, participants presented different innovation on Pollution Control Device Technology and Water e-mailing by Dr.Fantahun Abebe, Used Tyre Processing Technology to Produce Factory Oil, Smokeless Charcoal and Treated Oil by Ato Haileyesus Girma,Covid-19 Alarm and Switches, by Ezidin Kedir, Alternative Energy Technology, by Elsabet Delelegn and etal., Electric Vehicles, by Thomas Gebremeskel. The competition was made on innovation and academic among primary and secondary students.

In addition to these activities science, innovation and technology exhibition held and the University’s different workshops and laboratories were visited by the participants in parallel. Finally, different rewards and certificates of appreciation were given to the participants.               

According to the information from the Registrar, 3028 students in undergraduate regular, extension and distance programs,313 second degree /Master graduates/ and 3 PhD candidates in Mathematical Modeling today, of which (39.7%) are females.

It is reported that the University graduated 261 students with virtually held commencement on 21^st July 2020. Based on this, the DBU 2019/20 graduates’ number totals more than 3,300 students.

H.E. Ato Agegnehu Teshager, President of the Amhara National Regional State, forwarded his congratulatory remarks as: our country is facing many challenges internally for instance to enforce laws against Juntas and the ethnic based displacement from different corners of the country. We need to work together to solve these problems because they are focused on our unity, sovereignty, coexistence and existence as a nation. There is no greater privilege than living in life, and we must pay attention to it. There is nothing that allows people to lose their lives in a horrible way because of their identity, race, and religion. He added that graduates are expected to escalate their country from poverty and backwardness to prosperity serving the community impartial.

Dr. Nigus Tadesse, President of DBU, reportedly said this year’s graduation accomplishment is unique as it is achieved alongside of protecting COVID-19 and fighting national security risks which have imposed psychological insecurity on the graduates and the society at large.

Considering the national protection mechanism of Corona pandemic, DBU firstly readmitted graduating classes and non graduating classes of undergraduate students almost two months ahead of the rest so as to help them graduate completing their remained courses, conducting face to face and online classes, Dr.Nigus Tadesse stated.

Debere Berhan University conferred honorary doctoral degree for the first time since its establishment to megabe Tekletsadik Shewarega ,Miskabe Kidusan Yordanos Medehanealem Andinet Gedam founder and head of Mojana Wodera Woreda/Seladengay, for his contribution in architectural, natural resource conservation, green initiative, tourism and community service.

Finally, DBU awarded cups to two top scorers, namely Gebremariam Derbew from Agriculture and Natural Resources College and Tirsit Fenta from Business and Economics college of Management Department.

ከክልል እስከ ወረዳ ያሉ ከፍተኛ አመራሮችና የጤና ቢሮ ሀላፊዎች፣ በክልሉ ውስጥ ያሉ የመንግስት ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ፕሬዚዳንቶች እና ጥሪ የተደረገላቸው እንግዶች በተገኙበት ታህሳስ 19 ቀን 2013 ዓ.ም የውይይትና የኤግዚቪሽን መድረክ ተካሂዷል፡፡

ደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲም በክልሉ ምክር ቤት አዳራሽ በተዘጋጀው የውይይትና የኤግዚቪሽን መድረክ ላይ ተሳታፊ ሆኗል፡፡ ኮቪድ-19 በመከላከልና በመቆጣጠር ዙሪያ በክልሉ ውስጥ በሚገኙ የመንግስት ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች የተከናወኑ ዋና ዋና ተግባራትን ማለትም የግንዛቤ ፈጠራ ስራዎች፣ የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ድጋፎች፣ የጥናትና ምርምር ስራዎች እና ሌሎችንም ተግባራትን የሚያሳይ የፎቶ ኤግዚቪሽን አሳይተዋል፡፡

ዩኒቨርሲቲያችንም የኮቪድ-19 ወረርሽኝን በመከላከልና በመቆጣጠር ዙሪያ ባለፉት 10 ወራት በስፋት የተከናወኑ የማህበረሰብ አገልግሎት ድጋፎች፣ የግንዛቤ ፈጠራ ስራዎች፣ የጥናትና ምርምር ስራዎች የሚገልፅ አውደርዕይ አሳይቷል፡፡ በተጨማሪም በአንኮበርና ሸዋሮቢት የምርምር ጣቢያዎች እየተሰሩ ያሉትን የጥናትና ምርምር ስራዎች፣ የማህበረሰብ አቀፍ ድጋፎችን እንዲሁም በደብረብርሃን ከተማ ውስጥ ለሚገኙ ዝቅተኛ ገቢ ላላቸው የህብረተሰብ ክፍሎች የተደረጉ ድጋፎችን በዝርዝር የሚያሳይ የፎቶ ኤግዚቪሽን በኢፌደሪ ጤና ሚኒስቴር ሚኒስተር ዶ/ር ሊያ ታደሰ፣ በአብክመ ርዕሰ መስተዳደር አቶ አገኘሁ ተሻገር እና በሌሎችም አመራሮች የተጎበኘ ሲሆን አጠር ያለ ገለፃም ማድረግ ተችሏል፡፡

የኮቪድ-19 ወረርሽኝን በመከላከልና በመቆጣጠር ዙሪያ ደብረብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲ ላበረከተው አስተዋፅኦ የምስጋና ሰርተፍኬት ከክልሉ ጤና ቢሮ ተበርክቶለታል፡፡ 

Consortium of Reproductive Health Association in United Nation of Population Fund /UNFPA/  on December 15/2020 at Debre Berhan  University Graduation Hall.

Opening the workshop, Setew Demissie ,Fana Addis Tiwuld Ethiopia Executive Director /FATE/,said that the workshop contribute to integrate Adolescent and youth Sexual and Reproductive Health Outcomes of young people in Debre Berhan University. He added that the project was launched before covid 19 pandemic announced in Ethiopia. The project introduces MelaNet online platform for University students and it helps them to talk freely about reproductive health matters.

Ato Ameneshewa Nigussie, Debre Berhan University President Office Director, said that Fana Addis Tiwuld Ethiopia has worked in collaboration of the University for ages. He added that Fana Addis Tiwuld Ethiopia delivered training on Adolescent Reproductive Health, supported with different sanitary utilities and many more. The students would benefit at large from the project.

 Ato Alemayehu Gonie, Assistant Professor at DBU College of Health Science, presented paper on Prevention of COVID-19 integrating Sexual and Reproductive Health.”He said that integration means joined together different kind of SRH and HIV services of operational program at one place. The health services should be friendly and should also deliver counseling on SRH and Covid-19. It is also based on the need to offer comprehensive and integrated services. In his recommendation he said that Covid-19 pandemic case counts extremely increase because most of the people in Ethiopia become negligence to all preventive measures like washing hands frequently, using sanitizers, keep social distancing and wearing mask. Therefore, to keep safe people are recommended to apply the protective measures until it is reported the pandemic is over.   

The participants said that there is negligence on covid 19 about the protective measures and some law enforcement organizations are not strictly following up the implementation of Ministry of Health protocols. They told that taking protective care of Covid-19 should be mandatory and should also be planned to entertain SRH services.  

 በዩኒቨርሲቲው የተፈጥሮና ቀመር ሳይንስ ኮሌጅ አዘጋጅነት በማቲማቲካል ሞዴሊንግ የትምህርት መስክ ላለፉት 4 ዓመታት የ3ኛ ዲግሪያቸውን ሲከታተሉ የቆዩት መ/ር ሽመልስ በቀለ፣ መ/ር ተስፋዬ ተፈራ እና መ/ር ጥበቡ ቱሉ የተባሉ እጩ ዶክተሮች ተጋባዥ የዩኒቨርሲቲው መምህራን፣ የኮሌጁ አመራሮችና አማካሪዎች በተገኙበት የመመረቂያ ጹሑፋቸውን በቨርቹዋል ሞዳሊቲ አቅርበው በስኬት ማጠናቀቃቸውን የሂሳብ ትምህርት ክፍል ሀላፊ መ/ር ደጀኔ ሸዋቀና ገልጸዋል፡፡

እንደ ሀላፊው ገለፃ ከሆነ ተማሪዎቹ መውሰድ ያለባቸውን የትምህርት አይነቶች በሚገባ ወስደው ለመመረቅ የሚያበቃቸውን ጥናትና ምርምር አካሂደው በዩኒቨርሲቲው ታሪክ ለመጀመሪያ ጊዜ በተሳካ ሁኔታ ያጠናቀቁ እጩ ዶክተሮች መሆናቸውን ተናግረዋል፡፡ ይህም ለዩኒቨርሲቲው ትልቅ ስኬት ነው ብለዋል፡፡ ደብረ ብርሃን ዩኒቨርሲቲን ከአቻ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ተመራጭና ተወዳዳሪ ማድረግ፣ ዩኒቨርሲቲውን በጥሩ መልክ የማስተዋወቅና ገጽታ መግንባታ፣ በሀገር ውስጥና በውጪ ሀገር ከሚገኙ ምርጥ ዩኒቨርሲቲዎች ጋር በጋራ ለመስራት ያስችላል ነው ያሉት፡፡

በመጨረሻም ፕሮግራሙ እንዲሳካ አስተዋፅኦ ላደረጉ ለዩኒቨርሲቲው አመራሮች፣ መምህራን፣ የአይሲቲ ባለሙያዎችና  የመብራት ሰራተኞች ላቅ ያለ ምስጋና አቅርበዋል፡፡

 በስነ ሰርዓቱ ላይ የዩኒቨርሲቲው ከፍተኛ አመራሮች፣ መምህራን፣ ሰራተኛችና ተማሪዎች ተገኝተው ያላቸውን ክብርና ድጋፍም ገልጸዋል፡፡

የሀገር መከላከያ ሰራዊታችን፣ የአማራ ክልል ልዩ ሀይልና ሚሊሻ አባላት በሰሜኑ የትግራይ ክልል እያካሄዱ ባለው የጸጥታ ማስከበር እርምጃ እና ለፌደራል ስርአቱ አልገዛም ባለው የህወሀት ቡድን በሰሜን እዝ መከላኪያ ላይ የተቃጣበትን ክህደት ሁሉም የዩኒቨርሲቲው ማህበረሰብ በአንድነት አውግዘውታል፡፡ 

ለ2 ደቂቃ በተካሄደው የድጋፍ ስነ ስርዓት ላይ የፌደራል ሰንደቅ ዓላማ ከፍ ተደርጎ የተውለበለበ ሲሆን የቀኝ እጅን በደረት ላይ በማሳረፍና በማጨብጨብ “እናት ሀገር ኢትዮጵያ” የሚለውን የክቡር ዶ/ር አርቲስት ጥላሁን ገሰሰ የአንድነት ዜማ ከፍ ባለ ድምጽ ተዘምሯል፡፡

በመጨረሻም እስከአሁን ድረስ ለሀገር መከላከያ ሰራዊታችን ለአማራ ክልል ልዩ ሀይልና ለሚሊሻ አባላት በቀጥታም ሆነ በተዘዋዋሪ ድጋፍ ላደረጉና በማድረግ ላይ ለሚገኙ አካላት ምስጋና ቀርቦ የእለቱ ፕሮግራም ፍፃሚ አግኝቷል፡፡ 

Opening the meeting, Ato Tadesse G/Tsadik, Amhara National Regional State of North Shoa Zone Administrator, said that Universities are going to be opened in post covid-19 since November 3 and all the university along with the community’s collaboration has to work to secure their peace and stability. In addition the advisory council play invaluable role in securing peaceful teaching learning process.

Ato Bayou Getahun,Debre Berhan University Ethics and Anti-Corruption Directorate Director, presented the council’s plan and working package. In the presentation, he disclosed that the objective of the advisory council is to create stable and peaceful environment in participating the community actively and enhance peaceful teaching learning process. When the institutions face problems, the advisory council seeks solution in collaboration with community leaders, religious leaders, elders, renowned fathers and security agents.

The participants on their part asked questions and raise their concerns regarding the peace and stability. They confirmed that Debre Berhan University and the community can work to secure the peace in the zone in general and in particular in the university and the participants said that certain institutions like trade and industry, microenterprises and others which directly contribute for the university should be included in the advisory council as a member. In addition the advisory council members disclosed that they plan the action are ready to enhance the peaceful teaching learning process.

Dr.Nigus Tadesse,Debre Brehan University President, told that the coming academic calendar is stiff and hard due to Covid-19 pandemic, country wide political crisis and other unrest activities. Therefore, the community and the university have to work hand in hand in researching the cause of conflicts before they arises and plan to solve them together. The advisory council has either to forecast the consequence and control it or smashed by the conflict. He added that the University should work to alleviate the maladministration which creates conflicts in all circumstances. The advisory council in collaboration with the community and the security offices should work out of the compass. The members of the council will be added as they help us.

Ato Tadesse G/Tsadik summing up the discussion said that informal organizations whether cultural, political or religious which results in conflict are prohibited from exercising and practicing in the university. The students and teachers should only focus to meet the university’s mission in teaching learning, research and community services. The Medias are also responsible in communicating truths and facts about the peaceful teaching learning process and creating national consensus. Therefore, based on concrete facts they should fight ethnic discrimination and wide spreading fake news.   

 Opening the training, W/ro. Addis Asfawosen, Debre Berhan University Women, Children and Youth Directorate Director, said that leadership training is helpful in serving the community and it can add value and make women effective in leadership though it can be inherited through their cases and it can also growth up through training and experience sharing.  The aim of the training is to solve their problem, discus about it and share experience. 

Debre Berhan University, Department of management, Tirsit Woldemariam was a trainer. She presented paper on leadership skills, characteristics of leadership, the difference between leaders and boss, and leadership styles. She explained that leaders should have the quality to negotiate, coach, supervise and inspire his/her workers. They are also capable in creating team and sprits work place.

The trainee, Debre Berhan University College of Medicine Academic Affairs Associate Dean, Aklile Semu, told that this training enable them to enhance the capacity of leadership skills. Another trainee, W/ro, Alemayehu Syum, said that Women in the leadership position must be competitive and effective through training. She added that the capacity building training for women leaders should move into a uniform approach.

ዘመቻው ጥቅምት 03/2013 ዓ.ም የተካሄደ ሲሆን የበረሀ አንበጣው በደረሱ ሰብሎች ላይ ተጨማሪ ጉዳት እንዳያስከትልም ከ350 በላይ በጎ ፍቃደኞች በዩኒቨርሲቲው በተዘጋጀላቸው ሰባት የህዝብ ማመላለሻ አውቶብሶች ወደ ቀወት ወረዳ በመጓዝ ነው ሰብል የማንሳት ተግባር ያከናወኑት፡፡
